Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify the input operation, by forming thin film transistors (TFT) on the glass surface in the pattern recognizing device and by using them as the input means. CONSTITUTION:TFTs 21A-55A are constituted into a matrix on the reverse face of upper glass 1, and transparent gate electrodes 21-55 are arranged into a matrix throughout the reverse face of upper glass 1 approximately. Transparent leading-out lines X1-X5 and Y1-Y5 are wired in spaces between gate electrodes 21-55, and they are used as an input device. In respect to the input operation, when the input device is traced in a character pattern form with a finger or the like, induced voltages are taken out on lines X1-X5 and Y1-Y5. The pattern inputted in the induced voltage form is compared with standard patterns stored in the ROM or the like to recognize the pattern. If this pattern recognizing device is used in stead of the keyboard, troublesome key operations are avoided to simplify the input operation.
