Abstract

PURPOSE:To prolong the life of a liquid-crystal display device by enabling sealing which uses an inorganic material, by forming the liquid-crystal display device by applying the holography to an orientation treatment. CONSTITUTION:A couple of transparent substrates 1 and 2 are provided with transparent electrodes 3 and 4, respectively, and liquid crystal 6 is held between transparent substrates 1 and 2 having orientation-treated layers 5 on electrodes 3 and 4. At both the sides, polarizing plates 7, 8 and diffusing plate 9 are provided respectively to form a liquid-crystal display device. During the formation of this orientation-treated layer 5, the holography is applied to form a diffraction grating pattern, thereby forming rectangular grooves. Since thus orientation-treated substrates 1 and 2 are used, sealing with an inorganic material is enabled after liquid crystal is injected, and consequently the life of the liquid-crystal display device can be prolonged.
