Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain granules having a uniform grain size with a narrow size distribution and desirable hardness by swelling a mixture of potassium sulfate and gypsum with water followed by granulation by forced mixing under shear.
CONSTITUTION: Gypsum is added to potassium sulfate by 4W18wt% to the amount of the sulfate to prepare a mixture, and this mixture is swollen with 10W19wt% water. To the water may be added a water soluble binder such as starch of lignin by 2.5W20pts.wt. to 100pts.wt. of water. The swollen mixture is charged into a container fixing system mixer of puddle type or ribbon type and granulated by mixing under shear at 30W450m/min peripheral speed of agitating blades.
