Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare furan advantageously, by oxidizing butadiene in the vapor phase with molecular oxygen in the presence of a solid catalyst containig a palladium compound, a tellurium or indium compound containing oxygen and vanadium oxide having a durable high activity and selectivity.
CONSTITUTION: Butadiene is oxidized with molecular oxygen in the vapor phase in the presence of a solid catalyst containing (A) a palladium compound, e.g. halide, nitrate, sulfate, phosphate, acetate or oxide of palladium, (B) a tellurium or indium compound containing oxygen, e.g. tellurium dioxide, tellurium suboxide, telluric acid, indium hydroxide or oxide, and (C) a vanadium oxide at a low reaction temperature to give furan advantageously. The solid catalyst is usually supported on a carrier, e.g. silica, etc.
