Abstract
PURPOSE: To make a decorative scattering pattern on a plastic film applied onto a metal article such as a lighter or fountain pen and to enhance the commercial value of a product, by applying and hardening onto the plastic film a paint suspending a plurality of colored fine grains such as synthetic resin, metal or shells.
CONSTITUTION: A surface part to be coated, of a metal article such as a flat article, e.g. a lighter, a curved article, e.g. a glass frame or a cylindrical article, e.g. a fountain pen or cosmetic bottle, is engraved to a concave shape provided with a frame part 1 by a graver or the like. Sand or emery steel grains are sprayed onto the surface part, to roughen the surface part. The roughened surface part is coated with a viscous liquid paint. The paint contains an epoxy resin as a base, and a plurality of colored polygonal grains 2 such as synthetic resin, metal or shells. The polygonal grains are in sizes distinguinshable by the naked eye, and not uniform in the weights. The applied paint is swelling on the surface part. The paint layer is then defoamed in vacuum at a temperature lower than 40°C, and dried. The dried layer is heated at 50W120°C to harden the decorative sheet 3. Thereafter, the surface part is polished and plated to a smooth surface free from any stepped projections.
