Abstract
PURPOSE:To hot form on the line the continuously cast bloom without reheating the bloom, and to pressure weld the internal cracks in order to prevent generation of flaws in the succeeding rolling work, by pressing whole sharp corners of the continuously cast bloom simultaneously and repeatedly pointing the axial center of the bloom, in order to shrink the section area of the bloom. CONSTITUTION:The four-direction forging machine employed in this method press forms the square section bloom 1 from four direcrions along diagonal lines approximately simultaneously pointing the axial center of the bloom 1 with the hammer die 2. The hammer die 2 is connected to the pivot 5 eccentric from the center of the gear 4 with the connecting rod 3; hereby, with the rotation of the gear 4, the hammer die 2 makes a reciprocal motion toward the axial center of the bloom 1. The gear 4 can be connected to the power source whose speed is independently controllable; however, it is desired that the two adjoining gears 4 are engaged through the gear 6 in order to equalize the timing of their stroke. Above stated four-direction forging machine is installed on the continuous casting line for the square bloom, and whole sharp corners of the bloom are press formed toward the axial center of the bloom.
