Abstract
PURPOSE: To easily obtain a high quality transparent colored chrysolite group single crystal at a low cost by melting a high density raw material based on CaO, MgO, FeO and/or MnO, and SiO2 with infrared rays followed by crystallization on the interface of the molten part.
CONSTITUTION: Halogen lamp 2 is set at one focus of spheroidal mirror 1, and high density rodlike raw material 3 based on CaO, MgO, FeO and/or MnO and SiO2 at the other focus. Material 3 and seed crystal 5 are fixed to upper and lower rotary shafts 4, 6, respectively, and they are sealed in transparent quartz tube 7. Infrared rays from lamp 2 are concentrated on the tip of material 3 to form melting zone 8, and by moving crystal 5 upward it is contacted to zone 8. After an equilibrium state is attained, by moving shafts 4, 6 material 3 is melted at the interface between zone 8 and material 3, and crystallization takes place at the interface between zone 8 and crystal 5.
