Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A xanthine derivative of formula I (R1,2 are lower alkyl; n is 3 or 4).
EXAMPLE: 1-(4-Acetyl-5-oxohexyl)-3,7-dimethylxanthine.
USE: A remedy for after-effects of cerebral thrombosis. Deacetylation of the compound affords 1-(oxoalkyl)-3,7-dialkylxanthine, which is a medicine of the circulatory organs.
PROCESS: The compound I is prepared, e.g. by reacting a compound II (X is halogen) with 2,4-pentanedione in a solvent such as acetone, in the presence of a base, at 0W150°C, pref. 30W100°C.
