Abstract

PURPOSE: The captioned pump body which is so designed as to be provided with a core free from breakdown at the insertion and from erosion despite contact with molten metal by inserting the carbonaceous core in the pump body at the time of its casting and letting the inner hole of said core serve as a path for molten metal.
CONSTITUTION: A carbonaceous core 19 which has beforehand molded with a cavity hole as a path 17 for molten metal 5 is inserted in the gooseneck portion in a pump body 9 where the velocity of flow of molten metal is high and which receives the heaviest erosion. Porous carbonaceous material of porosities 10 to 40% is desirable as the abovementioned carbonaceous material for the core and either of graphite and amorphous carbon may be used as material quality. This constitution enables the life of the pump body to be made considerably longer as compared to before.
