Abstract
PURPOSE: To prolong the life of a metal mold by sufficiently sealing an insertion opening and seal part in insertion of a punch, by forming a gap whose section is in a wedge shape and a flow intake between the insertion opening of the metal mold and the seal part of the punch.
CONSTITUTION: At the circumferential surface of insertion opening 2 of metal mold 1, taper surface 6 decreasing in diameter gradually in the insertion direction of punch 4 is formed and at the lower circumferential surface of seal part 5 of punch 4, step part 7 is formed. Thus, gap 8 whose section is in a wedge shape is formed between taper surface 6 and part 5 and flow intake 9 linking cavity 3 in metal mold 1 to gap 8 is formed. When punch 4 is inserted from insertion opening 2 into cavity 3 by being moved downward, part of molten metal flows from flow intake 9 into gap 8, where it solidifies rapidly to seal gap 8. Additionally, as punch 4 is moved downward, the extent of the opening of flow intake 9 decreases to control the flow of molten metal, so that the molten metal in cavity 3 will rapidly be pressurized without pressure leakage.
