Abstract

PURPOSE: For high grade waste water treatment providing improved active carbon adsorbability, the content of organic material in waste water is reduced by active carbon and ferric salt, etc., then iron salt catalyst, hydrogen peroxide, and active carbon are added to decomposed organic material and transform it to low molecular weight material.
CONSTITUTION: Organic waste water is first added with powdered active carbon 22 and ferric salt 17 and adjusted to pH 3W5.5. This allows the organic material and coloring components in the waste water to be adsorbed by active carbon and coagulated by the ferric salt. Then, the treated water is added with ferric salt 20, hydrogen peroxide 21, and powdered active carbon 22 whereby organic material and coloring components are oxidized and decomposed. The materials to be treated are allowed to transform into low molecular weight products and provided with improved adsorbability to active carbon, and then adsorbed by active carbon. Thereafter, alkali 18' is added to adjust pH to 4 or higher to permit active carbon to be separated out together with ferric hydroxide. The separated ferric hydroxide is dissolved by mineral acid and regenerated as ferric salt coagulant.
