Abstract
PURPOSE: To control the birefringence and the ultimate thermal stress, and to improve the dyeability with disperse dyes, by heating an undrawn polyethylene terephthalate filament yarn, and by heat-treating the yarn while drawing at a specific draw ratio.
CONSTITUTION: An undrawn polyester filament yarn, obtained by melt spinning polyethylene terephthalate at a speed of 1,200W2,000m/min, is brought into contact with a heating roll at 100W130°C, preferably 115W120°C, and heat-treated at 120W 150°C, preferably 130W140°C, while being drawn under such conditions to satisfy the formula [f is the number of filaments of the undrawn yarn; B is the spinning speed (m/min); d is the size of the drawn yarn (denier); y is the draw ratio] to give the objective filament yarn having a birefringence of 0.14W0.185 and an ultimate thermal stress ≤420mg/d.
