Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance stability against ultraviolet rays and to widen vision angle, by providing a color liquid crystal display element with a liquid crystal material layer containing a polygenetic dye containing an anthraquinone dye and incorporating a liquid crystal compound having a cyclohexane ring in the liquid crystal material layer.
CONSTITUTION: In a color liquid crystal display element having a liquid crystal material layer containing a polygenetic dye, the display performance and practicability of the element are improved by using a polygenetic dye containing an anthraquinone dye represented by formula I, wherein X, Y and Z are each R, OR, NRR' or Cl, and R and R' are each H, alkyl or phenyl, such as 1,5-di-(4'-n-butylanilino)- anthraquinone and adding to the liquid crystal layer a liquid crystal compound having in the molecule at least one cyclohexane ring, represented by formula II or III, wherein A and B are each R, OR, COR, CN or the like and R is alkyl, thereby forming a combination of the compound and the dye.
