Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect liquid levels with a simple device and replenish inks by providing a plurality of ink tanks on a carriage and detecting the liquid level of each tank with one detecting means at the reciprocating of the carriage. CONSTITUTION:Liquid level detecting tanks 2, ink tanks 3 and an injection head 4 are placed on a reciprocating carriage 1. A liquid level detecting part 5 consisting of a light emitting part 6 and light receiving part 7 is disposed in the moving path of the carriage. When the carriage 1 moves in the arrow direction and the liquid level detecting tank of the ink tanks arrives at the place of the detecting part, the height of the liquid level to a certain reference height of the taink is detected by the ON- OFF states of the transmitted light. And the ink of the insufficient portion is replenished into the insufficient ink tank 3 from the ink replenishing part 8 until the transmission of the light goes OFF.
