Abstract
PURPOSE: To easily perform the stable operation of an active sludge plant for treating waste water, by controlling the sludge in the plant.
CONSTITUTION: The active sludge plant comprises a first settling pond 1, an aeration vessel 2 equipped with an air dispersing unit 10, and a second setting pond 3. The quantity of surplus sludge extracted from the second settling pond 3 is calculated from sludge brought in as solid of introduced water, sludge taken out while suspended in outgoing water and a calculated value of BOD determined from the sludge changing ratio on the basis of the past operation result or an experiment so as to operate a pump 20. The modification of the quantity of the extracted sludge is performed by feedback- controlling depending on the fluctuation in the sludge boundary in the second settling pond 3 the quantity of sludge returned from the second settling pond 3 to the aeration vessel 2 when the load fluctuation is low, or by return ratio prediction control depending on the fluctuation in the sludge boundary when the load fluctuation is high.
