Abstract
PURPOSE:To achieve lower light loss and easier production by installing a transparent glass spherical body between two optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:At the time of inserting plugs 2 which are fixed with optical fibers at their center with good accuracy into a socket 3 and fixing these by means of cap screws 4, a transparent glass ball 7 is disposed between the two plugs 2. Then, the glass ball 7 performs the function equivalent to that of one lens to the incident light and therefore if the positions of the end faces of the glass fibers 1 are suitably selected, the light may be transmitted without any leakage between the two glass fibers 1. And the inclination of the lens as with a plate form lens does not become of problem, the manufacture of the connector is made easier. Further, the glass fibers 1 do not contact the glass ball 7 and therefore the increase in light loss owing to repetition of mounting and demounting is less.
