Abstract
PURPOSE: To measure the concentration of substrate promptly and easily, and to realize continuous and repeated use, by properly integrating solidified oxidation- reduction enzyme, specific redox compound and electron conductive substance.
CONSTITUTION: Oxidation-reduction enzyme (b) such as glucose oxidase, electron conductive substance (a) such as carbon black particle, and buffer are mixed and dried in vacuum, and the enzyme (b) is fixed on the substance (a) by glutaric aldehyde. Insoluble redox compound (c) such as chloroaniline having quinone structure, and electron conductive substance (d) such as graphite particle are added to them and mixed, then formed by press. Thus prepared enzyme electrode is properly supported in the recess at the lower end of the electrode support member, Also, the enzyme electrode, when combined with oxygen electrode, for instance, is used in a battery which transforms the chemical energy of the substrate into an electrical energy
