Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an automatic positioning apparatus used in a transporting system for automatically positioning article to be transported, in which a driving means is provided for shifting means for detecting position of the article to be transported in parallel with the transporting direction of the transporting system, whereby it is enabled to control transportation of articles having different shapes and to change stop position of them.
CONSTITUTION: In transporting article 11 to be controlled from reference position 25 to a position located a distance L away from position 25, distance L is at first set in position setting unit 24 manually or by means of computor, and the value is afforded via positioning circuit 23 to controller 21. Driving means 20 is set into operation by the controller 21, and position detector 19 is carried from the reference position 25 to the position located a distance L away from position 25 and stopped there. Then, "start" instruction is given to controller 14 to transport article 11 by transporting means 12. When article 11 comes to the set position of decelerating position detecting sensor 17, it gives deceleration instruction to controller 14. Further, when top of the article 11 is detected by stop position detecting sensor 18, "stop" instruction is given to controller 14 to stop the article 11.
