Description
本発明の第1実施形態による液晶表示装置10について説明する。図1および図2は、第1実施形態による液晶表示装置10の構成を例示する概略断面図である。液晶表示装置10は、液晶パネル100と、光学補償部材500と、偏光板610および偏光板620と、を備える。
基板面内の座標軸をXY軸とし、基板法線をZ軸とする。X軸方向の主屈折率をNxとし、Y軸方向の主屈折率をNyとし、Z軸方向の主屈折率をNzとする。
Aプレート(正のAプレート)は、
Nx>Ny=Nz
を満たす。
Cプレート(負のCプレート)は、
Nx=Ny>Nz
を満たす。
Oプレートは、屈折率楕円体自体が基板に対して傾いているものであり、例えば、Nx>Ny>Nzに対してY軸を回転軸として、基板法線からある角度で傾いており、基板法線から見た時には、XY平面による楕円体断面における遅相軸がY軸方向になる。ただし、上記の条件に限定されるわけではなく、楕円体形状およびその傾きによって、Y軸方向が進相軸になってもよい。
図9は、第1実施形態の第1変形例による液晶表示装置10の構成を例示する概略断面図である。本変形例の液晶表示装置10は、対向基板300の(基材310の)液晶層400と反対側の面上、および、素子基板200の(基材210の)液晶層400と反対側の面上に、それぞれ、防塵ガラス(防塵部材)810,820を備える。そして、防塵ガラス810の液晶層400と反対側の面上に、光学補償部材500を備える。防塵ガラス810,820は、液晶パネル100の基材310,210に塵が付着すること(当該塵が表示画像上に結像すること)を抑制する。
図10は、第1実施形態の第2変形例による液晶表示装置10の構成を例示する概略断面図である。本変形例の液晶表示装置10は、素子基板200に、レンズ層240に加え、レンズ層240Aを有する。レンズ層240Aは、複数のレンズ241Aを有する。レンズ241Aは、画素電極260ごとに設けられている。各レンズ241Aは、基材210側に、つまり液晶層400と反対側に凸であり、各レンズ241Aの表面は、平面視で開口領域103内の全域に亘って曲面を形成している。
第2実施形態による液晶表示装置10について説明する。図11は、第2実施形態による液晶表示装置10の構成を例示する概略断面図である。第2実施形態の液晶表示装置10は、光学補償部材500が基材310に対して液晶層400側に配置されている点で、第1実施形態と異なる。
次に、上述の実施形態および変形例による液晶表示装置10の応用例として、投射型表示装置(プロジェクター)について説明する。図12は、応用例によるプロジェクター900の光学系を例示する模式図である。プロジェクター900は、光源装置901と、インテグレーター904と、偏光変換素子905と、色分離導光光学系902と、光変調装置としての液晶光変調装置910R、液晶光変調装置910G、 液晶光変調装置910Bと、クロスダイクロイックプリズム912および投写光学系914と、を具備して構成されている。液晶光変調装置910R、910Gおよび910Bには、後述するように、液晶パネル920R、920Gおよび920Bが設けられている。
Claims (11)
- 一対の偏光板と、
前記一対の偏光板間に、
基材及び共通電極を有する対向基板と、
画素電極、レンズ及び遮光部材、を有する素子基板と、
前記対向基板と前記素子基板とに挟持された液晶層と、
前記基材の前記液晶層側とは反対側又は前記液晶層と前記基材との間に配置された光学補償部材と、
を備え、
入射光が前記対向基板側から入射され、
前記対向基板には、平面視で前記画素電極を取り囲むと共に前記画素電極の縁に沿う遮光部材が設けられていない、
液晶表示装置。 - 前記光学補償部材が、前記基材の前記液晶層とは反対側に配置された場合に、前記光学補償部材は、前記基材から離間して配置される、
請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 一対の偏光板と、
前記一対の偏光板間に、
基材及び共通電極を有する対向基板と、
画素電極、レンズ及び遮光部材を有する素子基板と、
前記対向基板と前記素子基板とに挟持された液晶層と、
前記基材の前記液晶層側とは反対側又は前記液晶層と前記基材との間に配置された光学補償部材と、
を備え、
前記光学補償部材は、前記基材に接して配置され、
入射光が前記対向基板側から入射される、
液晶表示装置。 - 一対の偏光板と、
前記一対の偏光板間に、
基材及び共通電極を有する対向基板と、
画素電極、レンズ及び遮光部材を有する素子基板と、
前記対向基板と前記素子基板とに挟持された液晶層と、
前記基材の前記液晶層側とは反対側に配置された光学補償部材と、
前記対向基板の前記液晶層側とは反対側に配置された防塵部材と、
を備え、
前記光学補償部材は、前記防塵部材の面上に設けられ、
入射光が前記対向基板側から入射される、
液晶表示装置。 - 一対の偏光板と、
前記一対の偏光板間に、
基材及び共通電極を有する対向基板と、
画素電極、レンズ及び遮光部材を有する素子基板と、
前記対向基板と前記素子基板とに挟持された液晶層と、
前記液晶層と前記基材との間に配置された光学補償部材と、
を備え、
前記光学補償部材は、前記対向基板内に設けられ、
入射光が前記対向基板側から入射される、
液晶表示装置。 - 前記レンズの表面は、前記開口領域内の全域に亘って曲面を形成している、
請求項1〜5のうちいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記レンズは、前記液晶層側に凸であるか、または、前記液晶層と反対側に凸である、
請求項1〜6のうちいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記レンズは、球面レンズまたは非球面レンズである、
請求項1〜7のうちいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記レンズは、前記遮光部材に対して前記液晶層側に配置される、
請求項1〜8のうちいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記光学補償部材は、Cプレート、OプレートおよびAプレートのうち少なくとも1つを含む、
請求項1〜9のうちいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 請求項1〜10のうちいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置、
を備える電子機器。
