Description
図1は本発明の実施形態1の表示装置である液晶表示装置の全体構成を説明するための断面図であり、以下、図1に基づいて、実施形態1の表示装置の全体構成を説明する。ただし、以下の説明では、画像表示を行う表示パネルとして非発光型の第1の液晶表示パネル(液晶パネル)LCD1を用いる場合について説明するが、画像表示を行う表示パネルは他の非発光型の表示パネル、または有機EL表示パネルやプラズマ表示パネル等の自発光型の表示パネル等を用いる構成であってもよい。また、各薄膜の形成は公知のフォトリソグラフィー技術により可能となるので、その形成方法の詳細な説明は省略する。
図3は本発明の実施形態1の液晶表示装置における第1の液晶表示パネルの副画素の構成を説明するための上面図である。以下、図3に基づいて、実施形態1の液晶表示パネルLCD1における副画素の構造を説明する。ただし、説明を簡単にするために、図3には第1基板SUB11のみを示し、周知の配向膜は省略してその配向方向(ラビング方向)のみを示す。
図4は本発明の実施形態1の表示装置における第2の液晶表示パネルの詳細構成を説明するための平面図、図5は図4に示すA−A’線での断面図である。
次に、図6に本発明の実施形態1の液晶表示装置における2D表示動作を説明するための断面図、図7に本発明の実施形態1の液晶表示装置における3D表示動作を説明するための断面図を示し、以下、図6及び図7に基づいて、実施形態1の液晶表示装置における表示動作を説明する。ただし、図6及び図7は、図4に示すA−A’線に対応する液晶表示装置における断面図である。また、図6及び図7では、第1基板SUB21に形成される配向膜ORIのラビング角度b1と、第2基板SUB22に形成される配向膜ORIのラビング角度b2とを等しく形成してホモジーニアス配向させると共に、ラビング角度b1,b2を偏光板POL1の透過軸角度(第1透過軸角度)a1と等しく形成することによって、くし歯電極PXとの角度が直角に近くなる構成としている。さらには、図6及び図7においては、説明を簡単にするために、配向膜ORI及び絶縁膜PAS1,PAS2等は省略している。
図13は本発明の実施形態2の液晶表示装置における第1の液晶表示パネルの複画素の構成を説明するための上面図である。以下、図13に基づいて、実施形態1の液晶表示パネルLCD1における副画素の構造を説明する。ただし、実施形態2の第1の液晶表示パネルLCD1は、線状電極PX1及びスリットSLT並びにラビング方向R2が異なるのみで、他の構成は実施形態1の第1の液晶表示パネルLCD1と同様の構成となる。従って、以下の説明では、線状電極PX1及びスリットSLT並びにラビング方向R2について詳細に説明する。
図17は本発明の実施形態3の表示装置である液晶表示装置の概略構成を説明するための断面図であり、第1の液晶表示パネルLCD1を構成する第2基板SUB12の表示面側にくし歯電極PX及び偏光板POL4が形成される構成を除く他の構成は、実施形態1の第1の液晶表示パネルLCD1と同様の構成である。
図18は本発明の表示装置を備える情報機器の概略構成を説明するための図であり、特に、本発明の表示装置を携帯情報端末に使用した場合を示している。

- 画像表示を行う表示パネルと、前記表示パネルの表示面側に配置され、シリンドリカルレンズ状に屈折率を制御して視差障壁を形成し、2D表示と3D表示とを切り替える液晶レンズパネルとを備える表示装置であって、
前記液晶レンズパネルは、
前記表示パネル側に配置される第1透明基板と、
液晶層を介して前記第1透明基板と対向配置される第2透明基板と、
前記第2透明基板の表示面側に設けられた第2の偏光板と、
前記第1透明基板と前記表示パネルの表示面側の透明基板との間に設けられた第1の偏光板と、
前記第1透明基板の前記液晶層側に形成され、当該第1透明基板近傍の液晶分子の初期配向方向を第1の配向方向に制御する第1の配向膜と、
前記第2透明基板の前記液晶層側に形成され、当該第2透明基板近傍の液晶分子の初期配向方向を第2の配向方向に制御する第2の配向膜と、

前記液晶レンズパネルは、前記表示パネル側に配置される第1透明基板と、
液晶層を介して前記第1透明基板と対向配置される第2透明基板と、
前記第2透明基板の表示面側に設けられた第2の偏光板と、前記第1透明基板と前記表示パネルの表示面側の透明基板との間に設けられた第1の偏光板と、
前記第1透明基板の前記液晶層側に形成され、当該第1透明基板近傍の液晶分子の初期配向方向を第1の配向方向に制御する第1の配向膜と、
前記第2透明基板の前記液晶層側に形成され、当該第2透明基板近傍の液晶分子の初期配向方向を第2の配向方向に制御する第2の配向膜と、
を備え、
前記第1の偏光板の透過軸方向をa1、前記第2の偏光板の透過軸方向をa2、前記第1の配向方向をb1、前記第2の配向方向をb2とした場合に、
前記シリンドリカルレンズの並設方向に対してa1=a2=b1=b2=0°であることを特徴とする表示装置。 - 前記第2の偏光板は前記第1の偏光板よりも偏光度が小さいことを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の表示装置。
- 前記第2の偏光板は前記第1の偏光板よりも偏光度が大きいことを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の表示装置。
- 画像表示を行う表示パネルと、前記表示パネルの表示面側に配置され、2D表示と3D表示とを切り替える液晶レンズパネルとを備える表示装置であって、
前記液晶レンズパネルは、前記表示パネル側に配置される第1透明基板と、
液晶層を介して前記第1透明基板と対向配置される第2透明基板と、を備え、
前記第2透明基板の表示面側に設けられた第2の偏光板と、前記第1透明基板と前記表示パネルの表示面側の透明基板との間に設けられた第1の偏光板とを備え、
前記第1の偏光板の透過軸方向をa1、前記第2の偏光板の透過軸方向をa2、とした場合に、a1とa2とが等しく形成されると共に、
前記第2の偏光板は前記第1の偏光板よりも偏光度が小さいことを特徴とする表示装置。 - 前記表示パネルは、液晶層を介して対向配置される一対の透明基板を有する液晶表示パネルと、該液晶表示パネルの裏面側に配置されるバックライトユニットとを備えることを特徴とする請求項1乃至5の内の何れかに記載の表示装置。
