Description
まず始めに、本願の基本原理を説明する。
図1は、本発明の参考例1における液晶表示装置の画素近傍の平面図である。図1における1つの画素は、表示制御領域10と視野角制御領域20とで構成されている。
図4は、本発明の参考例1における液晶表示装置の製造方法の工程説明図である。まず始めに、第1工程により、基板40の上に、1層目の透明電極50を形成する。次に、第2工程により、基板40の上に、ゲート電極41、データパッド43を形成するとともに、透明電極50上にゲートパッド42を形成する。
本実施の形態1では、5マスクプロセスを用いて、透明電極による2層構造を有する液晶表示装置を得る別の形態について説明する。図8は、本発明の実施の形態1における液晶表示装置の画素近傍の平面図であり、左右方位に土手21(あるいはスリット)が設けられている。一方、図9は、本発明の実施の形態1における液晶表示装置の画素近傍の別の平面図であり、上下方位に土手21(あるいはスリット)が設けられている。
図10は、本発明の実施の形態1における液晶表示装置の製造方法の工程説明図である。まず始めに、第1工程により、基板40の上に、1層目の透明電極50を形成する。次に、第2工程により、基板40の上に、ゲート電極41、ゲートパッド42、データパッド43を形成する。
Claims (4)
- 画素の集合からなる表示画面を有する垂直配向型の液晶表示装置であって、
1つの画素のそれぞれは、
斜め方位に液晶分子が傾くように配向制御された表示制御領域と、
上下方位あるいは左右方位に液晶分子が傾くように配向制御され、前記表示制御領域と共通のコモン線を介して制御電圧が印加される視野角制御領域と
を備え、
前記表示制御領域に形成される画素電極および前記視野角制御領域に形成される視野角制御電極は、透明電極による2層構造を有することを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置において、
前記視野角制御領域は、前記コモン線を介して画素書き込み期間でないブランキング期間に制御電圧が印加されることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 請求項1または2に記載の液晶表示装置において、
前記視野角制御領域に対向する基板上にカラーフィルタによる着色層を設けないことを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 基板上の表示制御領域に透明な画素電極を形成する第1工程と、
前記基板上にゲート電極、ゲート線、コモン線を形成する第2工程と、
ゲート絶縁膜を形成し、前記ゲート絶縁膜上に半導体層と、ソース電極およびドレイン電極と、信号線を形成する第3工程と、
パッシベーション層を前記基板全面に形成した後に第1および第2コンタクトホールを形成する第4工程と、
前記第1コンタクトホールを通じて前記ドレイン電極と前記画素電極を接続されるコンタクト電極と、視野角制御領域に前記第2コンタクトホールを通じて前記コモン線と接続される透明な視野角制御電極を形成する第5工程と
を備えたことを特徴とする液晶表示装置の製造方法。
