Description
X量(原子%)/Fe量(原子%)×100 ……(1)
元素Xの存在形態は磁性相中に固溶されていても構わないし、表面に被着していても構わない。
「Fe16N2を主体とする」とは、Co−Kα線を用いた当該粉末のX線回折パターンにおいて、2θ=50.0°付近に検出されるピークの強度I1と、2θ=52.4°付近に検出されるピークの強度I2との強度比、I1/I2が、1〜2の範囲にあるものをいう。ここで、I1はFe16N2相の(202)面のピーク強度であり、I2はFe16N2相の(220)面のピークとFe相の(110)面のピークが重なったピークの強度である。
まず、還元処理を行うための原料粉末として、W及びMoの1種類以上を含有するオキシ水酸化鉄や、ヘマタイト、マグネタイト、ウスタイトなどの酸化鉄を用意する。「W及びMoの1種類以上を含有する」とは、W及びMoがこれらの原料粉末の粒子の中に存在する(固溶している)場合と、粒子表面に被着して存在する場合、あるいはその両方の形態で存在する場合が含まれる。
上記還元温度でα−Fe等に還元した後、温度をさらに上げて結晶性を向上させる多段還元を実施してもよい。
〔組成分析〕
磁性粉末中のFeの定量は平沼産業株式会社製平沼自動滴定装置(COMTIME−980)を用いて行った。また磁性粉末中のAl、希土類元素(Yも希土類元素として扱う)、W、Moの定量は日本ジャーレルアッシュ株式会社製高周波誘導プラズマ発光分析装置(IRIS/AP)を用いて行った。これらの定量結果は質量%として与えられるので、一旦全元素の割合を原子%に変換し、前述の(1)式に従って元素XのFeに対する原子比(X/Fe原子比)を算出した。
・平均粒子径(nm): 倍率10万倍以上の透過型電子顕微鏡(TEM)写真として映し出された粒子のうち、2粒子もしくはそれ以上の粒子が重なっているのか焼結しているのか判別できない粒子を除き、粒子同士の境界が判別できる粒子1000個について、それぞれの粒子の中で写真上での最も長い径を測定して、それを個々の粒子の径(nm)とし、その平均値を平均粒子径とする。
・比表面積: BET法で測定する。
磁性粉末について、X線回折装置(株式会社リガク製、RINT−2100)を用いて、Co−Kα線を使用して、40kV、30mAにて2θ=20〜60°の範囲をスキャンスピード0.80°/min、サンプリング幅0.040°でスキャンすることによりX線回折パターンを求め、2θ=50.0°付近に検出されるピークの強度I1と、2θ=52.4°付近に検出されるピークの強度I2との強度比I1/I2(前述)の値によってFe16N2相の生成率を評価する。I1/I2=2のとき、その粉末中のFe16N2相の生成率は100%とする。I1/I2=1のとき、その粉末中のFe16N2相の生成率は50%とする。したがって本発明でいう「Fe16N2を主体とする粉末」とは、I1/I2が1〜2の範囲にあるもの、つまりFe16N2相の生成率が50〜100%のものを表している。
[1]磁性塗料の作製
磁性粉末0.500gを秤量し、ポット(内径45mm、深さ13mm)へ入れる。蓋を開けた状態で10分間放置する。次にビヒクル〔塩ビ系樹脂MR‐110(22質量%)、シクロヘキサノン(38.7質量%)、アセチルアセトン(0.3質量%)、ステアリン酸nブチル(0.3質量%)、メチルエチルケトン(MEK,38.7質量%)の混合溶液〕をマイクロピペットで0.700mL採取し、これを前記のポットに添加する。すぐにスチールボール(2φ)30g、ナイロンボール(8φ)10個をポットへ加え、蓋を閉じ10分間静置する。その後、このポットを遠心式ボールミル(FRITSCH P−6)にセットし、ゆっくりと回転数を上げ、600rpmに合わせ、60分間分散を行う。遠心式ボールミルが停止した後、ポットを取り出し、マイクロピペットを使用し、あらかじめMEKとトルエンを1:1で混合しておいた調整液を1.800mL添加する。再度、遠心式ボールミルにポットをセットし、600rpmで5分間分散し、分散を終了する。
前記の分散を終了した後、ポットの蓋を開け、ナイロンボールを取り除き、塗料をスチールボールごとアプリケータ(55μm)へ入れ、支持フィルム(東レ株式会社製のポリエチレンフィルム:商品名15C−B500:膜圧15μm)に対して塗布を行う。塗布後、すばやく5.5kGの配向器のコイル中心に置き、磁場配向させ、その後乾燥させる。
磁気特性の測定: 得られたテープについてVSMを用いて、最大796kA/mの外部印加磁場で、保磁力Hcx、SFDx及びSQxの測定を行う。
0.2mol/L(Lはリットルを表す)のFeSO4水溶液4Lに、12mol/LのNaOH水溶液0.5LとW/Fe(WのFeに対する原子比、以下同様)=1.0原子%となる量のタングステン酸ナトリウム・二水和物及びAl/Fe=20原子%となる量のアルミン酸ナトリウムを添加したうえで、40℃の液温を維持しながら空気を300mL/minの流量で2.5時間吹き込むことにより、W及びAlを固溶させたオキシ水酸化鉄を析出させた。この酸化処理の後、析出したオキシ水酸化鉄をろ過・水洗したうえ再度水中に分散させた。
この磁性粉末について、透過型電子顕微鏡を用いて倍率174000倍で粒子撮影を行い、上記の方法にて平均粒子径を求めた結果、平均粒子径は18.8nmであった。また、上記の手法でBET比表面積、Hc、σs、SQ、Δσs及びΔHcを求めた。
さらに前記の方法でこの磁性粉末を使用して磁性塗料を作り、これを用いて磁気テープを作製した。そのテープについて上記のテープ特性Hcx、SFDx及びSQxを求めた。
これらの結果を表1に示す(以下の実施例、比較例において同じ)。
実施例1オキシ水酸化鉄を析出させる工程においてタングステン酸ナトリウム・二水和物の添加量をW/Fe=0.1原子%となるように変更した以外、実施例1と同様の条件で磁性粉末を製造し、実施例1と同様の測定を行った。
実施例1オキシ水酸化鉄を析出させる工程においてタングステン酸ナトリウム・二水和物の添加量をW/Fe=5.0原子%となるように変更した以外、実施例1と同様の条件で磁性粉末を製造し、実施例1と同様の測定を行った。
実施例1オキシ水酸化鉄を析出させる工程においてタングステン酸ナトリウム・二水和物の代わりにモリブデン酸ナトリウム・二水和物をMo/Fe=1.0原子%となるように添加したこと以外、実施例1と同様の条件で磁性粉末を製造し、実施例1と同様の測定を行った。
実施例1のオキシ水酸化鉄を析出させる工程において、タングステン酸ナトリウム・二水和物を添加しない以外は実施例1と同様の方法で磁性粉末を得た。
Claims (5)
- W及びMoの1種以上を固溶させたオキシ水酸化鉄を還元処理した後に窒化処理してなり、W及びMoの1種以上をFeに対する原子比で合計0.01〜10原子%、Al及び希土類元素(Yも希土類元素として扱う)の1種以上をFeに対する原子比で合計25原子%以下の範囲で含むFe16N2主体の鉄系磁性粉末。
- W及びMoの1種以上とAlを固溶させたオキシ水酸化鉄に希土類元素(Yも希土類元素として扱う)を被着させて還元処理した後に窒化処理してなり、W及びMoの1種以上をFeに対する原子比で合計0.01〜10原子%、Al及び希土類元素をFeに対する原子比で合計25原子%以下の範囲で含むFe16N2主体の鉄系磁性粉末。
- 保磁力Hcが238kA/m以上である請求項1または2に記載の鉄系磁性粉末。
- 平均粒子径が20nm以下である請求項1〜3のいずれかに記載の鉄系磁性粉末。
- 請求項1〜4のいずれかに記載の鉄系磁性粉末を磁性層に用いた磁気記録媒体。
