(上記の構成において、陽極として機能する電極が左側に接続され、陰極として機能する電極が右側に接続される)
40インチのSVGA規格(800×600画素、各画素はRGBの副画素から構成される)のディスプレイの作製を行った。本実施例では、400×300画素に相当する1200×300の発光部を有する有機EL発光素子(20インチ)を4枚用いた。RGB各副画素のサイズを0.148×0.704mm、副画素間の間隔は0.130mmとした。したがって、画素サイズは0.704mm×0.704mmであり、画素間隔は0.312mmであり、画素ピッチは1.016mmであった。
4枚の20インチサイズの有機EL素子からなる接合体の形成を、有機EL素子のガラス基板接合面間にポリエステルのフィルム状樹脂を挟み込んで、接着剤による接合を行うこと以外は、実施例1と同様の手順を用いて、20インチサイズの有機EL素子4枚および40インチサイズの色変換フィルタを用いた40インチディスプレイを形成した。用いたポリエステルのフィルム状樹脂の厚さを25μm以下とすることによって、接着剤の充填不良による有機EL素子接合端面での乱反射を防止し、有機EL素子の接合端面が視覚的に認識されるのを防止する効果を有する。

Claims (4)
- 複数種の副画素から形成される画素、および前記複数種の副画素の間および前記画素の周囲に設けられるブラックマトリクスが整列されている色変換フィルタと、複数の有機EL素子とを含み、前記複数種の副画素は複数種の色変調部から形成され、前記複数の有機EL素子のそれぞれは前記複数種の副画素に対応する複数の発光部を有し、前記複数の有機EL素子が貼り合せられて1つの表示素子を形成しており、前記有機EL素子の貼り合わせによる接合部が、前記色変換フィルタのブラックマトリクスに相当する位置にあり、前記画素は赤色、青色および緑色の3種の副画素から構成され、前記緑色の副画素は前記青色および赤色の副画素よりも小さい寸法を有し、および前記緑色の副画素に隣接するブラックマトリクスの領域に前記有機EL素子の横方向の接合部が配置されており、前記横方向の接合部の一方の側に隣接する全ての副画素は緑色の副画素であり、他方の側に隣接する全ての副画素は青色または赤色の副画素であることを特徴とする表示装置。
- 前記色変換フィルタは、一体の構造を有することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 前記複数種の副画素のそれぞれは、前記複数の発光部のそれぞれよりも小さい寸法を有することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 前記有機EL素子の横方向の接合部端面に反射防止材料を設けたことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。
