Description
図3及び図4で、本発明のVAモード液晶表示装置は、ゲートライン(107)とデータライン(109)によって画素領域が定義され、前記画素領域を光を反射させる反射領域(r)と光を透過させる透過領域(t)に区切り、前記透過領域(t)に電界誘導窓(114)が形成され、前記画素領域に画素電極(113)が形成され、そして前記反射領域(r)と前記透過領域(t)との境界に所定の段差部が形成された第1基板(101)と、前記第1基板(101)と対向されて配置され、前記電界誘導窓(114)から所定距離に間隔を置いた誘電体突起(110)が形成された第2基板(102)と、前記第1及び第2基板(101、102)の間に挿入された液晶層(120)を具備する。

によって得られる。
δは液晶の位相差値で、Δnは液晶の屈折率で、dはセルギャップである。これによって、光の反射を利用する反射モードと光の透過を利用する透過モード間には光効率の差が発生するようになる。このような光効率の差を減らすために、透過領域(t)のセルギャップ(d1)を反射領域(r)のセルギャップ(d2)より大きくして、これに従って液晶層(320)の位相差値を一定に維持することができる。
図5に図示されたように、画素領域が反射領域(r)と透過領域(t)とに区画される。この時、前記画素領域には一つの透過領域(t)と少なくとも2個以上の反射領域(r)が存在することができる。

Claims (12)
- 液晶表示装置であって、
ゲートラインとデータラインによって画素領域が定義され、前記画素領域が少なくとも2つ以上の反射領域と透過領域とで区切られている、第1基板を含み、前記第1基板は、
前記第1基板上に形成された保護層と、
前記保護層上で且つ前記反射領域上に形成された、前記反射領域と前記透過領域との境界に少なくとも2つ以上の段差部を形成する少なくとも2つ以上の段差層と、
前記透過領域上に形成された電界誘導窓と、
前記段差層上で且つ前記電界誘導窓以外の部分に形成され、前記電界誘導窓で分離された少なくとも2つ以上の画素電極と、
前記反射領域に対応する前記画素電極上で且つ前記反射領域と前記透過領域との境界に形成された少なくとも2つ以上の反射板とを含み、前記液晶表示装置はさらに、
前記第1基板と対向され配置された第2基板を含み、前記第2基板は、前記電界誘導窓から所定距離に間隔を置きそして前記反射領域に対応する前記第2基板の部分に形成された少なくとも2つ以上の誘電体突起を有し、そして、
前記第1及び第2基板の間に挿入された液晶層を含み、
前記透過領域の第1セルギャップと前記反射領域の第2セルギャップとの差が前記段差部の厚さになり、そして、
前記電界誘導窓と前記誘電体突起とが一方向で互いに平行に形成される、液晶表示装置。 - 前記透過領域の前記第1セルギャップは前記反射領域の前記第2セルギャップより大きいことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記段差層が前記画素領域ごとに形成されることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記段差部が前記電界誘導窓の左右に対称的に形成されることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記誘電体突起の各々と前記電界誘導窓との間の距離は30−70μmであることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記誘電体突起の各々と前記電界誘導窓との間の距離は50μmであることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記電界誘導窓は凹んだ形を有することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- お互いに相違する方向に配向された多数のドメインを有する第1及び第2配向膜が前記第1基板及び前記第2基板にそれぞれ形成されることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記液晶層の液晶は負の誘電率異方性を持つことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記段差部の各々で発生されたフリンジフィールドは前記電界誘導窓と前記段差部の各々の間に発生されたフリンジフィールドを等しい方向に誘導して、液晶の方向が両フリンジフィールド領域で等しいことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記段差部の各々で発生されたフリンジフィールドは前記段差部の各々と前記誘電体突起の間に発生されたフリンジフィールドを等しい方向に誘導して、液晶の方向が両フリンジフィールド領域で等しいことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記電界誘導窓で発生されたフリンジフィールドは前記電界誘導窓と前記誘電体突起間に発生されたフリンジフィールドを等しい方向に誘導して、液晶の方向が両フリンジフィールド領域で等しいことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
