Claims (17)
- 第一基板と第二基板との間に電気泳動材料を挟持する電気泳動表示装置に於いて、
該第一基板には複数の画素が形成され、
該画素はn個(nは3以上の整数)のサブピクセルから成り、
前記n個のサブピクセルの面積が略等しく、前記画素に於いてn+1個の輝度階調を可能ならしめ、
該n個のサブピクセルには、隣接するサブピクセル同士を直線で分離し得ないサブピクセル対が少なくとも一対は存在し、
同一の前記画素内において一の前記サブピクセルの辺のうち他の前記サブピクセルと隣接する辺の長さを境界辺総長と定義した場合に、前記n個のサブピクセルのうち少なくとも2つの前記サブピクセルの各々の境界辺総長は、他のいずれかの前記サブピクセルの境界辺総長よりも長く、
前記n個のサブピクセル全てが暗表示で有る状態を輝度階調0とし、i個(iは1からnの間の整数)の前記サブピクセルが明表示でn−i個の前記サブピクセルが暗表示で有る状態を輝度階調iとした時に、輝度階調iを表す際に、暗表示の前記サブピクセルと明表示の前記サブピクセルとを分離する境界辺長が最大となる様にn個の前記サブピクセルからi個の前記サブピクセルを明表示として選択するサブピクセル選択手段を備える事を特徴とする電気泳動表示装置。 - 該n個のサブピクセルには、隣接するサブピクセル間の境界辺が複数の直線から構成されるサブピクセル対を少なくとも一対は備えて居る事を特徴とする請求項1に記載の電気泳動表示装置。
- 該n個のサブピクセルの内で少なくとも一個のサブピクセルは、隣接する前記画素と境界を接して居ない事を特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の電気泳動表示装置。
- 前記隣接するサブピクセルの間隔は10μm以下で有る事を特徴とする請求項1乃至3に記載の電気泳動表示装置。
- 前記隣接するサブピクセルの間隔は、前記画素の面積をSとした時に、√(S/n)にて表現される長さよりも十分に短い事を特徴とする請求項1乃至4に記載の電気泳動表示装置。
- 前記n個のサブピクセルには、前記画素の面積をSとした時に、隣接するサブピクセル間の境界辺長が√Sよりも長いサブピクセル対が少なくとも一対は設けられて居る事を特徴とする請求項1乃至5に記載の電気泳動表示装置。
- 前記n個のサブピクセル全てが暗表示で有る状態を輝度階調0とし、i個(iは1からnの間の整数)のサブピクセルが明表示でn−i個のサブピクセルが暗表示で有る状態を輝度階調iとした時に、輝度階調iを表す際に、前記画素の中心により近いi個のサブピクセルを前記n個のサブピクセルから選択して明表示とするサブピクセル選択手段を備える事を特徴とする請求項1乃至6に記載の電気泳動表示装置。
- 前記n個のサブピクセル全てが暗表示で有る状態を輝度階調0とし、i個(iは1からnの間の整数)のサブピクセルが明表示でn−i個のサブピクセルが暗表示で有る状態を輝度階調iとした時に、輝度階調iを表す際に、前記画素の中心からより遠いi個のサブピクセルを前記n個のサブピクセルから選択して明表示とするサブピクセル選択手段を備える事を特徴とする請求項1乃至6に記載の電気泳動表示装置。
- 前記n個のサブピクセル全てが暗表示で有る状態を輝度階調0とし、i個(iは1からnの間の整数)のサブピクセルが明表示でn−i個のサブピクセルが暗表示で有る状態を輝度階調iとした時に、輝度階調iを表す際に、暗表示のサブピクセルの総面積と明表示のサブピクセルの総面積とを比較して、面積の小さい方の表示を面積の大きい方の表示よりも内側に位置する様にn個のサブピクセルからi個のサブピクセルを明表示として選択するサブピクセル選択手段を備える事を特徴とする請求項1乃至6に記載の電気泳動表示装置。
- 前記n個のサブピクセル全てが暗表示で有る状態を輝度階調0とし、i個(iは1からnの間の整数)のサブピクセルが明表示でn−i個のサブピクセルが暗表示で有る状態を輝度階調iとした時に、輝度階調iを表す際に、暗表示のサブピクセルの総面積と明表示のサブピクセルの総面積とを比較して、面積の小さい方の表示を面積の大きい方の表示よりも外側に位置する様にn個のサブピクセルからi個のサブピクセルを明表示として選択するサブピクセル選択手段を備える事を特徴とする請求項1乃至6に記載の電気泳動表示装置。
- 前記隣接するサブピクセルの間隔は、前記電気泳動材料の厚みの0.176倍以下で有る事を特徴とする請求項1乃至9に記載の電気泳動表示装置。
- 第一基板と第二基板との間に電気泳動材料を挟持する電気泳動表示装置の駆動方法に於いて、
該第一基板には複数の画素が形成され、
該画素はn個(nは3以上の整数)のサブピクセルから成り、
前記n個のサブピクセルの面積が略等しく、前記画素に於いてn+1個の輝度階調を可能ならしめ、
該n個のサブピクセルには、隣接するサブピクセル同士を直線で分離し得ないサブピクセル対が少なくとも一対は存在し、
同一の前記画素内において一の前記サブピクセルの辺のうち他の前記サブピクセルと隣接する辺の長さを境界辺総長と定義した場合に、前記n個のサブピクセルのうち少なくとも2つの前記サブピクセルの各々の境界辺総長は、他のいずれかの前記サブピクセルの境界辺総長よりも長く、
該n個のサブピクセル全てが暗表示で有る状態を輝度階調0とし、i個(iは1からnの間の整数)のサブピクセルが明表示でn−i個のサブピクセルが暗表示で有る状態を輝度階調iとした時に、輝度階調iを表す際に、暗表示のサブピクセルと明表示のサブピクセルとを分離する境界辺長が最大となる様にn個のサブピクセルからi個のサブピクセルを明表示として選択する事を特徴とする電気泳動表示装置の駆動方法。 - 該n個のサブピクセル全てが暗表示で有る状態を輝度階調0とし、i個(iは1からnの間の整数)のサブピクセルが明表示でn−i個のサブピクセルが暗表示で有る状態を輝度階調iとした時に、輝度階調iを表す際に、暗表示のサブピクセルの総面積と明表示のサブピクセルの総面積とを比較して、面積の小さい方の表示を面積の大きい方の表示よりも内側に位置する様にn個のサブピクセルからi個のサブピクセルを明表示として選ぶ事を特徴とする請求項12に記載の電気泳動表示装置の駆動方法。
- 該n個のサブピクセル全てが暗表示で有る状態を輝度階調0とし、i個(iは1からnの間の整数)のサブピクセルが明表示でn−i個のサブピクセルが暗表示で有る状態を輝度階調iとした時に、輝度階調iを表す際に、暗表示のサブピクセルの総面積と明表示のサブピクセルの総面積とを比較して、面積の小さい方の表示を面積の大きい方の表示よりも外側に位置する様にn個のサブピクセルからi個のサブピクセルを明表示として選ぶ事を特徴とする請求項12に記載の電気泳動表示装置の駆動方法。
- 該n個のサブピクセルには、隣接するサブピクセル間の境界辺が複数の直線から構成されるサブピクセル対を少なくとも一対は備えて居る事を特徴とする請求項12乃至14に記載の電気泳動表示装置の駆動方法。
- 該n個のサブピクセルの内で少なくとも一個のサブピクセルは、隣接する画素と境界を接していない事を特徴とする請求項12乃至15に記載の電気泳動表示装置の駆動方法。
- 前記隣接するサブピクセルの間隔は、前記電気泳動材料の厚みの0.176倍以下で有る事を特徴とする請求項12乃至16に記載の電気泳動表示装置の駆動方法。
