Description
本発明は、有機EL(エレクトロルミネッセンス)表示装置、発光ダイオード表示装置、電界放出表示装置などに適用されて有効である。
Claims (13)
- 互いに対向した一対の電極間に配置され、流れる電流量に応じて光学特性が変化する光学層を含む表示素子、及び前記表示素子に映像信号に応じた量の電流を供給する駆動回路をそれぞれ備えた複数の画素が配列された表示画面と、
前記表示画面の表示状態として前記複数の各表示素子に流れる電流の総電流値を1フレーム期間内に2回以上検出する表示状態検出回路と、
前記駆動回路から前記表示素子への電流供給時間を前記表示状態検出回路からの出力に応じて変化させ、かつ、1フレーム期間内に2回以上調光制御を行う調光回路と、
を有した表示装置。 - 前記表示素子は、発光層を含んだ有機物層を有する有機EL素子であることを特徴とする請求項1記載の表示装置。
- 前記表示状態検出回路は、前記複数の画素の各表示素子に流れる電流の総電流値を検出電圧に変換して出力する回路であることを特徴とする請求項1記載の表示装置。
- 前記調光回路は、時間に対して連続的に変化し、かつ所定周期で繰り返す周波信号と、前記表示状態検出回路からの出力結果とを比較し、
前記電流供給期間を制御する制御パルスを出力することを特徴とする請求項1記載の表示装置。 - 前記周波信号の周期は、1/2垂直周期以内に設定されていることを特徴とする請求項4記載の表示装置。
- 前記表示装置は、前記一対の電極のそれぞれに所定の電位を供給する一対の電源端子と、前記表示素子および前記一対の電源端子の一方との間に接続されるスイッチを含み、前記調光回路から出力される制御パルスは前記スイッチの制御電極に供給されることを特徴とする請求項4記載の表示装置。
- 前記スイッチは、前記複数の画素のそれぞれに配置されることを特徴とする請求項6記載の表示装置。
- 前記複数の画素は、それぞれが、入力される映像信号に応じた駆動電流を出力する駆動用トランジスタを含み、前記スイッチは、この駆動用トランジスタのドレインと前記表示素子との間に直列接続されることを特徴とする請求項7記載の表示装置。
- 前記スイッチは、前記画素の複数に共通に設けられることを特徴とする請求項6記載の表示装置。
- 前記スイッチは、前記画素と前記電源端子との間に接続されることを特徴とする請求項9記載の表示装置。
- 前記一対の電極の一方は各画素共通に連続して配置されることを特徴とする請求項10記載の表示装置。
- 調光回路は、前記総電流値が大きくなったときは、前記複数の表示素子の導通期間が短くなり、前記総電流値が小さくなったときは、前記複数の表示素子の導通期間が長くなるように、前記制御パルスのパルスデューティーを可変することを特徴とする請求項4記載の表示装置。
- 互いに対向した一対の電極間に配置され、流れる電流量に応じて光学特性が変化する光学層とを含む表示素子、及び前記表示素子に映像信号に応じた量の電流を供給する駆動回路とをそれぞれ備えた複数の画素が配列された表示画面とを有した表示装置の制御方法において、
前記表示画面の表示状態として前記複数の各表示素子に流れる電流の総電流値を1フレーム期間内に2回以上検出するステップと、
前記駆動回路から前記表示素子への電流供給時間を前記表示状態検出回路からの出力に応じて変化させ、かつ、1フレーム期間内に2回以上調光制御を行うステップと、
を有した表示装置の制御方法。
