- サブピクセルが表示画面上に配列され、各サブピクセルにそれぞれ行方向に延びる走査線及び列方向に沿って延びる信号線が接続された表示パネルを備える表示装置において、
表示画面の行方向のサイズを行方向の画素数で割り算した値を、行方向での1画素に相当する長さとしたとき、行方向の色配列の一周期が2以上のm個分の画素に相当する長さであって、
その色配列の一周期は、
光の三原色又はこの三原色と補色関係にある三原色のサブピクセルを少なくとも含んで1行に沿って配置された、サブピクセル構成が互いに等しいm個のサブピクセル群と、
1個以上m個未満の追加サブピクセルと、から構成される表示装置。 - 請求項1に記載の表示装置において、
前記表示パネルにおける色配列がストライプ配列である表示装置。 - サブピクセルが表示画面上に配列され、各サブピクセルにそれぞれ行方向に延びる走査線及び列方向に沿って延びる信号線が接続された表示パネルを備える表示装置において、

前記色配列の一周期が3色のサブピクセルを含んでおり、そのうちで最も輝度の高いサブピクセル同士は、1行に沿って互いに隣接しない表示装置。 - 請求項1〜4のいずれかに記載の表示装置において、
前記追加サブピクセルの階調レベルは、その追加サブピクセルの左方向に位置するサブピクセル群及び右方向に位置するサブピクセル群のいずれか一方のサブピクセル群に含まれるサブピクセルの階調レベルに基づいて設定される表示装置。 - 請求項14に記載の表示装置において、
前記追加サブピクセルの階調レベルとして、前記一方のサブピクセル群に含まれるサブピクセルの階調レベルのうちの最も小さい階調レベルが設定される表示装置。 - 請求項1〜4のいずれかに記載の表示装置において、
前記追加サブピクセルの階調レベルは、その追加サブピクセルの左方向に位置するサブピクセル群及び右方向に位置するサブピクセル群の両方のサブピクセル群に含まれるサブピクセルの階調レベルに基づいて設定される表示装置。 - 請求項16に記載の表示装置において、
前記追加サブピクセルの階調レベルとして、前記左方向に位置するサブピクセル群に含まれるサブピクセルの階調レベルのうちの最も小さい階調レベルと、前記右方向に位置するサブピクセル群に含まれるサブピクセルの階調レベルのうちの最も小さい階調レベルとのより小さい方が設定される表示装置。 - 請求項16に記載の表示装置において、
前記追加サブピクセルの階調レベルとして、前記左方向に位置するサブピクセル群に含まれるサブピクセルの階調レベルのうちの最も小さい階調レベルと、前記右方向に位置するサブピクセル群に含まれるサブピクセルの階調レベルのうちの最も小さい階調レベルとのより大きい方が設定される表示装置。 - 請求項16に記載の表示装置において、

前記表示パネルは、一対の基板間に挟持された液晶と、その基板のうちの一方の基板上に前記各サブピクセルに対応して形成された電極と、他方の基板上にその電極に対向して形成された共通電極及びカラーフィルタと、を含む表示装置。 - 請求項21に記載の表示装置において、
