この発明は、電子写真プロセスを用いる、複写機・プリンタ・ファクシミリまたはそれらの複合機などの画像形成装置に関する。

【従来の技術】
従来、この種の画像形成装置では、たとえば図5に示すように、画像形成装置本体内に像担持体1を組み付け、装置本体の正面カバーを閉じたときには、付勢力に抗して像担持体シャッタ2を支軸3を中心として回動し、画像転写後の転写紙4が定着装置5へと向かう搬送経路aを開通して、像担持体シャッタ2を、像担持体1を被う保護位置(図中鎖線で示す位置)からその被いを解除する退避位置(図中実線で示す位置)へと移動し、また再び装置本体の正面カバーを開いたときには、付勢力に基づき退避位置から保護位置まで戻し、像担持体1への光照射を防止していた。

他方、転写紙4の搬送経路aを短くしてファーストプリントタイムの短縮を図るべく、図5に示すようないわゆる縦搬送形式の画像形成装置が近年多く見られるようになった。この形式の画像形成装置では、搬送経路aを垂直とし、像担持体1と転写ローラ6間の転写ニップbで画像転写後の転写紙4を、搬送経路aを通して上方へと搬送し、定着装置5の加熱ローラ7と加圧ローラ8間の定着ニップcへと導く。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
ところが、この種の画像形成装置では、転写紙4の後端4aが転写ニップbを離れると、転写紙4が定着ニップcの円弧形状に倣って後端4aが像担持体シャッタ2の先端2aに近付き、先端2aが転写紙4表面に接触して定着前の転写画像を乱し、転写こすれを生ずるおそれがあった。定着ニップcからの転写紙4の自由長が短くなるほど、転写紙4の後端4aが像担持体シャッタ2の先端2aに近付く傾向にある。

特に昨今、画像形成装置の小型化の要請から、像担持体シャッタ2を大きく退避させることが困難となり、一層上記転写こすれを生ずるおそれがあった。

そこで、この発明の課題は、いわゆる縦搬送形式の画像形成装置において、画像転写後の転写紙を定着装置へと搬送するとき該転写紙が像担持体シャッタに触れて転写こすれを生ずることを防止することにある。

【課題を解決するための手段】
そのため、この発明は、画像転写後の転写紙が定着装置へと向かう搬送経路を開通して、像担持体シャッタを、像担持体を被う保護位置からその被いを解除する退避位置へと移動する画像形成装置において、像担持体シャッタの先端部をシャッタ本体部に対して回動可能に備え、像担持体シャッタ前記退避位置への移動にしたがって先端部が搬送経路から遠ざかる方向に重力に基づき回動してなる、ことを特徴とする。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下、図面を参照しつつ、この発明の実施の形態につき説明する。
図1には、この発明の一例であるレーザプリンタの要部概略構成を示す。図中符号10は、プリンタ装置本体の内部正面(図中右側)寄りに設けるドラム状の像担持体である。

使用時は、この像担持体10を図中矢示方向(反時計方向)に回転する。そして、はじめに表面を帯電ローラ11で一様に帯電し、次いで不図示の光書込み装置からレーザ光Lを照射して書込みを行い、像担持体10の表面に静電潜像を形成する。

画像転写後の転写紙は、除電針21で除電後、搬送経路Aを通してそのまま上方へと搬送し、定着装置22の定着ローラ23と加圧ローラ24の定着ニップCへと導き、それらで熱と圧力とを加えて転写紙上の転写画像を定着して後、画像面を下にして排紙ローラ25と排紙コロ26で装置本体上の排紙部へと排出する。

一方、画像転写後の像担持体10は、その回転とともにクリーニング装置27のクリーニングブレード28で残留トナーを除去し、帯電ローラ11による再度の帯電に備える。

ところで、図示レーザプリンタでは、メンテナンス時の便宜等を考え、1つの筐体であるカートリッジケース30内に、上述した像担持体10と帯電ローラ11と現像装置12とクリーニング装置27などを設けてプロセスカートリッジ32を構成する。

プロセスカートリッジ32には、またカートリッジケース30で支持し、支軸34を中心として開閉自在に像担持体シャッタ35を設ける。像担持体シャッタ35は、図2に示すとおり、シャッタ本体部40と先端部50とで構成する。

他方、装置本体の正面カバーを閉じたときには、その正面カバーに備えるレバー部で突当部42の突当面42aを押して、付勢力に抗して像担持体シャッタ35を支軸34を中心として開き、画像転写後の転写紙が定着装置22へと向かう搬送経路Aを開通して、鎖線で示すように像担持体10の被いを解除する退避位置へと移動する。

【発明の効果】
請求項1に係る発明によれば、像担持体シャッタを退避位置へと移動したとき先端部を搬送経路から遠ざかる方向に回動するから、転写紙の後端が転写ニップを離れ、転写紙が定着ニップの円弧形状に倣って後端が像担持体シャッタの先端に近付くようなことがあっても、先端部が転写紙の表面に接触して定着前の転写画像を乱すおそれがなく、転写こすれの発生を防止することができる。

また、像担持体シャッタを退避位置へと移動したとき、先端部を重力に基づき回動するから、安価な構成で先端部を搬送経路から遠ざけることができる。

請求項に係る発明によれば、像担持体と像担持体シャッタとを同一の筐体で支持するから、両者の相対位置精度を向上し、像担持体シャッタを狭い部所へも退避することができ、小型化を可能とすることができる。
