上記ペレットを用いて試験片を成形し、曲げ試験(ASTM D790準拠)を実施した。曲げ弾性率、曲げ歪みを表3に示した。
上記ペレットを用いて、外径Φ29mm×内径Φ24mm(肉厚2.5mm)×幅1.6mmのシールリングを射出成形により製造した。図4に示すように、このシールリング21をテーパー治具19へ速度1mm/sで挿入し、破損したときの内径寸法(=限界拡張量)を測定した。用いたシールリングおよびテーパー治具の詳細な寸法は、図5に示すとおりである。試験結果を表4に示した。
得られたシールリングの特性について、図6に示す試験機により、シールリングの耐久試験を行なった。図6は試験機の概略図である。この試験機は、モータ18、カップリング16、回転トルク計15、試験ヘッド17から構成される。試験ヘッド17において、相手軸12の環状溝にシールリング11を2つ装着した。シールリング11は、相手軸12の環状溝の側壁と、ハウジング13の軸孔内周面と摺接する態様としてある。装置右側より、油を圧送して、2つのシールリング11の間の環状隙間に供給した。14は油温用の温度計である。詳細な試験条件は、下記表5に示すとおりである。なお、シールリングとしては、外径Φ29mm×内径Φ24mm(肉厚2.5mm)×幅1.6mmのシールリング(図5(a)参照)を用いた。

Claims (6)
- 内燃機関の吸気弁および排気弁を駆動するカムシャフトと、該カムシャフトに固定された内側回転体と、前記吸気弁または排気弁のバルブ開閉タイミング変更時に作動油により前記内側回転体に対して相対的に回動運動する外側回転体と、前記内側回転体の内周に、該内側回転体および前記外側回転体と同心に設置された軸体とを備えてなる可変バルブタイミングシステムにおいて、前記内側回転体と前記軸体との間に形成されて作動油の油路となる環状通路を密封するシールリングであって、
前記シールリングは、ポリフェニレンサルファイド樹脂を主成分としエラストマーを含むポリフェニレンサルファイド樹脂組成物を成形してなり、
前記ポリフェニレンサルファイド樹脂組成物は、該組成物全体に対して前記エラストマーを1〜10体積%、炭素繊維を1〜10体積%、ポリテトラフルオロエチレン樹脂を1〜30体積%含み、
前記シールリングの内径寸法の拡張率が130%以上であることを特徴とする可変バルブタイミングシステムのシールリング。 - 前記シールリングは、前記内側回転体と前記外側回転体で構成される、前記回動運動を行なうための一対の作動油室のそれぞれに繋がる2本の前記環状通路を仕切る部材であることを特徴とする請求項1記載の可変バルブタイミングシステムのシールリング。
- 前記ポリフェニレンサルファイド樹脂組成物は、常温時における曲げ弾性率(ASTM D790準拠)が4500MPa以下、曲げ歪み(ASTM D790準拠)が4%以上であることを特徴とする請求項1または請求項2記載の可変バルブタイミングシステムのシールリング。
- 前記シールリングの外径寸法がφ20mm〜φ50mmであり、シールリング径方向の厚みが2.0〜4.0mmであり、前記外径寸法に対する前記シールリング径方向の厚みの比率が8〜10%であることを特徴とする請求項1から請求項3までのいずれか1項記載の可変バルブタイミングシステムのシールリング。
- 前記炭素繊維が、平均繊維長が0.02〜0.2mmのミルドファイバーであることを特徴とする請求項1から請求項4までのいずれか1項記載の可変バルブタイミングシステムのシールリング。
- 前記シールリングは、前記軸体または前記内側回転体に形成される環状溝に装着され、該溝側面との摺動面となるリング側面の内径側端部の一部に、前記溝側面との非接触部となる、リング周方向に沿ったV字状の凹部が設けられていることを特徴とする請求項1から請求項5までのいずれか1項記載の可変バルブタイミングシステムのシールリング。
