[1] 電子腕時計の構成
図1は、本発明の第1実施形態に係る電子腕時計1のブロック図である。図2は、電子腕時計1の概略図である。電子腕時計1は、表示ユニット10、EL駆動回路13、PN駆動回路14、発振回路15、時計回路16、記憶部17、電源回路18、入力部19、及び制御回路20を備える。表示ユニット10は、第1表示パネル11、及び第2表示パネル12を備える。
次に、表示ユニット10の構成について説明する。図3は、表示ユニット10の断面図である。
次に、第1表示パネル11の構成について説明する。第1表示パネル11は、画素ごとにアクティブ素子を配置したアクティブマトリクス駆動方式である。

上記のように構成された電子腕時計1の動作について説明する。表示ユニット10(第1表示パネル11及び第2表示パネル12)の動作は、EL駆動回路13、PN駆動回路14、及び制御回路20により制御される。
まず、キャラクター表示の動作について説明する。図5は、キャラクター表示における表示ユニット10の動作を説明する図である。図5(a)は断面図、図5(b)は表示ユニット10の表示領域に表示される画像である。
次に、情報表示の動作について説明する。情報表示では、第1表示パネル11が表示動作を行い、第2表示パネル12は、全面が透過状態から散乱状態の間で切り替えられる。
以上詳述したように第1実施形態では、電子腕時計(電子機器)1は、有機EL表示素子から構成される第1表示パネル11と、高分子分散型液晶表示素子から構成される第2表示パネル12と、第1表示パネル11と第2表示パネル12との間隔を保持するスペーサー22と、第1表示パネル11と第2表示パネル12との間に設けられ、かつスペーサー22に囲まれた空気層21とを具備する。第1表示パネルは、TFT基板30に設けられ、光を反射する複数の画素電極35と、複数の画素電極35上に設けられ、光を発光する複数の発光層36と、対向基板31に設けられ、複数の発光層36に接する共通電極37とを含む。第2表示パネル12は、下側基板40及び上側基板41間に充填された高分子分散型液晶層42と、下側基板40に設けられた複数の表示電極43と、上側基板41に設けられた共通電極44とを含む。そして、第1表示パネル11の対向基板31は、第2表示パネル12と直接向き合うように配置される。
第2実施形態は、ユーザーによるタッチセンサの操作に基づいて、電子腕時計1の表示モードを切り替えるようにしている。
