Abstract

- 内燃機関の排気通路に備えられて窒素酸化物を吸蔵する触媒部と、
前記触媒部に吸蔵された窒素酸化物量の排気の流れ方向における空間的な分布を検出する分布検出手段と、
その分布検出手段によって検出された前記触媒部における窒素酸化物の吸蔵量の空間的な分布を用いて、前記触媒部における硫黄劣化を判定する判定手段と、
を備えたことを特徴とする内燃機関の排気浄化装置。 - 前記判定手段は、前記分布検出手段によって検出された前記触媒部における窒素酸化物の吸蔵量の空間的な分布において、排気の流れ方向における下流側吸蔵量の全体吸蔵量に対する割合が閾値よりも高い場合に、前記触媒部は硫黄劣化していると判定する請求項1に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 前記触媒部に還元剤を供給して吸蔵された窒素酸化物を還元する還元手段を備え、
前記分布検出手段は、

前記還元手段による還元の実行中に、前記空燃比検出手段によって検出された前記第1位置、前記第2位置、前記第3位置における少なくとも3つ以上の空燃比により、前記触媒部における窒素酸化物の吸蔵量の空間的な分布を算出する第1算出手段と、
を備えた請求項1又は2に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。 - 前記第1算出手段は、前記空燃比検出手段によって検出された少なくとも3つ以上の空燃比検出位置のうちのいずれか2つの位置における空燃比の差分値の積算により、その2つの位置の間における窒素酸化物の吸蔵量と相関を有する前記還元剤の消費量を算出する第2算出手段を備えた請求項3に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 前記第1算出手段は、前記空燃比検出手段によって検出された少なくとも3つ以上の空燃比検出位置のうちのいずれか2つの位置において、前記2つの位置のうちで上流側の位置がリッチ雰囲気となった時刻と前記2つの位置のうちで下流側の位置がリッチ雰囲気となる時刻との差分により、その2つの位置の間における窒素酸化物の吸蔵量と相関を有する前記還元剤の消費時間を算出する第3算出手段を備えた請求項3に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 前記分布検出手段は、
前記触媒部における、排気の流れ方向における上流の第1位置、下流の第3位置、その第1位置と第3位置との間の第2位置における少なくとも3つ以上の窒素酸化物濃度を検出する窒素酸化物検出手段と、
前記窒素酸化物検出手段によって検出された前記第1位置、前記第2位置、前記第3位置における少なくとも3つ以上の窒素酸化物濃度により、前記触媒部における窒素酸化物の吸蔵量の空間的な分布を算出する第4算出手段と、
を備えた請求項1又は2に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。 - 前記第4算出手段は、前記窒素酸化物検出手段によって検出された少なくとも3つ以上の検出位置のうちのいずれか2つの位置における窒素酸化物濃度の差分値の積算により、その2つの位置の間における窒素酸化物の吸蔵量を算出する第5算出手段を備えた請求項6に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 前記第2算出手段は、前記第1位置と前記第3位置との間の前記還元剤の消費量と、前記第2位置と前記第3位置との間の前記還元剤の消費量と、を算出し、
前記判定手段は、前記第2算出手段によって算出された、前記第1位置と前記第3位置との間の前記還元剤の消費量に対する、前記第2位置と前記第3位置との間の前記還元剤の消費量の比率が閾値よりも大きい場合に、前記触媒部は硫黄劣化していると判定する請求項4に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。 - 前記第5算出手段は、前記第1位置と前記第3位置との間の窒素酸化物の吸蔵量と、前記第2位置と前記第3位置との間の窒素酸化物の吸蔵量と、を算出し、
前記判定手段は、前記第5算出手段によって算出された、前記第1位置と前記第3位置との間の窒素酸化物の吸蔵量に対する、前記第2位置と前記第3位置との間の窒素酸化物の吸蔵量の比率が閾値よりも大きい場合に、前記触媒部は硫黄劣化していると判定する請求項7に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。 - 前記触媒部に蓄積した硫黄を除去する再生手段と、
その再生手段による硫黄の除去処理の実行の前後における前記触媒部の窒素酸化物の吸蔵量の分布を比較して前記触媒部の故障を判定する故障判定手段と、
を備えた請求項1乃至9のいずれか1項に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
