Abstract
Description
無線ローカル・エリア・ネットワーク(LAN)内に同一周波数チャネル上で移動局と通信する複数のアクセス・ポイントを配置するステップと、
1つまたは複数のアクセス・ポイントで、同一周波数チャネル上で移動局からWLANを介して送信されたアップリンク信号を受信するステップと、
アップリンク信号に応答するアクセス・ポイントのうちの1つを選択するために、アップリンク信号を受信するアクセス・ポイント間でアービトレーションを行うステップと、
選択した1つのアクセス・ポイントから移動局へ応答を送信するステップとを含む移動体通信のための方法を提供する。
また、好ましい実施形態によれば、本発明は、
通信媒体と、
媒体によって相互接続され、無線ローカル・エリア・ネットワーク(WLAN)内に配置されて同一周波数チャネル上で移動局と通信する複数のアクセス・ポイントであって、移動局から同一周波数チャネル上でWLANを介して送信されるアップリンク信号を1つまたは複数のアクセス・ポイントで受信すると、媒体上でメッセージを送信してアップリンク信号を受信するアクセス・ポイント間でアービトレーションを行い、アップリンク信号に応答する1つのアクセス・ポイントを選択し、選択した1つのアクセス・ポイントから移動局に応答を送信することができるアクセス・ポイントとを含む移動体通信システムを提供する。
所定の周波数チャネル上で移動局と通信するように構成されたトランシーバと、
トランシーバが所定の周波数チャネル上でWLANを介して移動局から送信されたアップリンク信号を受信すると、アップリンク信号を受信する他のアクセス・ポイントと共にアービトレーション・プロトコルを実行してアップリンク信号に応答する1つのアクセス・ポイントを選択し、トランシーバがアービトレーション・プロトコルに従った応答を移動局に返送するようにトランシーバを制御することができるメッセージ・プロセッサとを含む。

Claims (33)
- 無線ローカル・エリア・ネットワーク(WLAN)内に同一周波数チャネル上で移動局と通信する複数のアクセス・ポイントを配置するステップと、
1つまたは複数のアクセス・ポイントで、同一周波数チャネル上で移動局からWLANを介して送信されたアップリンク信号を受信するステップと、
アップリンク信号に応答するアクセス・ポイントのうちの1つを選択するために、アップリンク信号を受信するアクセス・ポイント間でアービトレーションを行うステップと、
選択した1つのアクセス・ポイントから移動局へ応答を送信するステップとを含む移動体通信を行うための方法。 - アクセス・ポイントがそれぞれのサービス・エリアを有し、前記複数のアクセス・ポイントを配置するステップが、前記サービス・エリアが大幅に重なるようにアクセス・ポイントを配置するステップを含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記複数のアクセス・ポイントを配置するステップが、IEEE規格802.11にほぼ従って前記移動局と通信する前記アクセス・ポイントを配置するステップを含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記アクセス・ポイント間でアービトレーションを行うステップが、IEEE規格802.11が課す前記アップリンク信号に肯定応答する制限時間内に前記アップリンク信号に応答する前記アクセス・ポイントのうちの1つを選択するステップを含む、請求項3に記載の方法。
- 前記アクセス・ポイント間でアービトレーションを行うステップが、前記アクセス・ポイントをリンクする共用通信媒体上でメッセージを送信するステップを含む、前記請求項1〜4のいずれか1項に記載の方法。
- メッセージの送信ステップが、前記アップリンク信号を受信する前記アクセス・ポイントから前記複数のアクセス・ポイントに同報通信メッセージを送信するステップを含む、請求項5に記載の方法。
- 前記同報通信メッセージの送信ステップが、多元接続プロトコルを用いて同時に複数のアクセス・ポイントから共用通信媒体上でメッセージを送信するステップを含む、請求項6に記載の方法。
- 多元接続プロトコルが符号分割多元接続(CDMA)プロトコルを含む、請求項7に記載の方法。
- アクセス・ポイント間でアービトレーションを行うステップが、前記アクセス・ポイントの各々がどのアクセス・ポイントが前記アップリンク信号に応答するかの選択を決定するために、複数のアクセス・ポイントの各々でメッセージを受信し、処理するステップを含む、請求項5に記載の方法。
- メッセージ処理ステップが、前記メッセージに応答して、前記アップリンク信号を最初に受信した1つのアクセス・ポイントを選択するステップを含む、請求項9に記載の方法。
- メッセージ送信ステップが、前記メッセージ内に前記アクセス・ポイントの各々が受信した前記アップリンク信号の強度を示すステップを含む、請求項5に記載の方法。
- 前記複数のアクセス・ポイントを配置するステップが、前記移動局との間でデータを搬送するためのローカル・エリア・ネットワーク(LAN)内の前記アクセス・ポイントをリンクするステップを含み、前記LANが複数の導体を有するケーブルを備え、メッセージ送信ステップが、前記移動局との間で前記データを搬送するのに使用されない前記ケーブルの1つまたは複数の導体上でメッセージを送信するステップを含む、請求項5に記載の方法。
- 通信媒体と、
前記媒体によって相互接続され、無線ローカル・エリア・ネットワーク(WLAN)内に配置されて同一周波数チャネル上で移動局と通信する複数のアクセス・ポイントとから成り、該複数のアクセスポイントガ、前記移動局から同一周波数チャネル上でWLANを介して送信されるアップリンク信号を1つまたは複数のアクセス・ポイントで受信すると、前記媒体上でメッセージを送信して前記アップリンク信号を受信する前記アクセス・ポイント間でアービトレーションを行い、前記アップリンク信号に応答する1つのアクセス・ポイントを選択し、前記選択した1つのアクセス・ポイントから前記移動局に応答を送信することができる移動体通信システム。 - 前記アクセス・ポイントがそれぞれのサービス・エリアを有し、少なくともサービス・エリアの一部が大幅に重なるように配置される、請求項13に記載のシステム。
- 前記アクセス・ポイントが、IEEE規格802.11にほぼ従って前記移動局と通信することができる、請求項13に記載のシステム。
- 前記アクセス・ポイントが、IEEE規格802.11が課す前記アップリンク信号に肯定応答する制限時間内に前記アップリンク信号に応答する1つのアクセス・ポイントを選択することができる、請求項15に記載のシステム。
- 前記媒体が共用通信媒体として構成される、請求項13〜16のいずれか1項に記載のシステム。
- アップリンク信号を受信する前記アクセス・ポイントが前記媒体を介して前記複数のアクセス・ポイントにメッセージを同報通信することができる、請求項17に記載のシステム。
- 多元接続プロトコルを用いてほぼ同時に複数のアクセス・ポイントがメッセージを同報通信することができるように適合される、請求項18に記載のシステム。
- 前記多元接続プロトコルが符号分割多元接続(CDMA)プロトコルを含む、請求項19に記載のシステム。
- 前記複数のアクセス・ポイントの各々がどのアクセス・ポイントが前記アップリンク信号に応答するかの選択を決定するために、複数のアクセス・ポイントの各々がメッセージを受信し、処理することができる、請求項17に記載のシステム。
- 前記アクセス・ポイントが、前記メッセージに応答して、前記アップリンク信号を最初に受信して前記アップリンク信号に応答した1つのアクセス・ポイントを選択することができる、請求項21に記載のシステム。
- 前記アクセス・ポイントが、前記アクセス・ポイントの各々が受信した前記アップリンク信号の強度を前記メッセージ内に示すことができる、請求項17に記載のシステム。
- 前記アクセス・ポイントをリンクする複数の導体を有するケーブルを備えるローカル・エリア・ネットワーク(LAN)を含み、前記アクセス・ポイントが、前記LAN上で前記移動局との間でデータを搬送することができ、前記通信媒体が前記移動局との間でのデータの搬送に使用されないケーブルの1つまたは複数の導体を備える、請求項13〜16のいずれか1項に記載のシステム。
- 移動体通信のための複数のアクセス・ポイントの1つとしての無線ローカル・エリア・ネットワーク(WLAN)内に配備するアクセス・ポイント装置であって、
所定の周波数チャネル上で移動局と通信するように構成されたトランシーバと、
前記トランシーバが所定の周波数チャネル上でWLANを介して前記移動局から送信されたアップリンク信号を受信すると、前記アップリンク信号を受信する他のアクセス・ポイントと共にアービトレーション・プロトコルを実行して前記アップリンク信号に応答する1つのアクセス・ポイントを選択し、前記トランシーバがアービトレーション・プロトコルに従って応答を前記移動局に返送するようにトランシーバを制御することができるメッセージ・プロセッサと、を備えるアクセス・ポイント装置。 - 前記トランシーバが、IEEE規格802.11にほぼ従って前記移動局と通信することができる、請求項25に記載の装置。
- 前記メッセージ・プロセッサが、IEEE規格802.11が課す前記アップリンク信号に肯定応答する制限時間内に前記アップリンク信号に応答する1つのアクセス・ポイントを選択するように前記アービトレーション・プロトコルを実行することができる、請求項26に記載の装置。
- 前記メッセージ・プロセッサが、前記アクセス・ポイントをリンクする共用通信媒体上で他のアクセス・ポイントとの間でメッセージを送受信することで前記アービトレーション・プロトコルを実行することができる、請求項25〜27のいずれか1項に記載の装置。
- 前記メッセージが同報通信メッセージを含み、前記トランシーバが前記アップリンク信号を受信した時に前記メッセージ・プロセッサが前記同報通信メッセージのうちの1つを送信することができる、請求項28に記載の装置。
- 前記メッセージ・プロセッサが、多元接続プロトコルを用いて共用通信媒体上で前記メッセージを送信することができる、請求項29に記載の装置。
- 前記多元接続プロトコルが符号分割多元接続(CDMA)プロトコルを含む、請求項30に記載の装置。
- 前記メッセージ・プロセッサが、最初に前記アップリンク信号を受信した1つのアクセス・ポイントを決定し、最初に前記アップリンク信号を受信して前記アップリンク信号に応答した1つのアクセス・ポイントを選択するために前記他のアクセス・ポイントから受信したメッセージを処理することができる、請求項28に記載の装置。
- 前記メッセージ・プロセッサが、送信した前記メッセージ内に前記トランシーバが受信した前記アップリンク信号の強度を含めることができる、請求項28に記載の装置。
