【背景技術】
今日、多数のソフトウェアプログラムは、多層解決策を効果的に使用してスク
リーンに情報を表示する。 例えば、描画パッケージは、ソフトウェアユーザが描画することのできる中央
領域を有する。 典型的な描画パッケージでは、スクリーン上の描画に効果的に重畳する多数の
ドロップダウンメニュー、ツールバー、カーソル又はテンプレートがある。その
理由は、限定されたスクリーン領域しか使用できないからである。従って、ユー
ザが、選択されるべきファンクションを見ることができるようにするためには、
ある描画スペースをそのために借りねばならない。
【０００３】 しばしば、ユーザは、もし可能であればツールバー及びメニューを動かすか、
或いは描画（又はユーザが作業しているファイル）を移動して、メニュー等によ
りそれまで隠されていた描画の部分がユーザに実際に見えるようにしなければな
らないという望ましからぬ位置におかれる。 ソフトウェアユーザが経験する別の関連問題、特に、描画パッケージ（それに
限定されない）に関連した問題がある。
【０００４】 描画をコンパイルするときには、「オブジェクト」の多数の層を使用して描画
をコンパイルすることがしばしば必要である。典型的な描画ファンクションは、
オブジェクトが画の後方にあるものとして見られるか、絵の前方において全てに
重畳するものとして見られるかを決定する能力をユーザに与える。これは、ある
場合に、画の後方にあるオブジェクトが画の前方にある大きなオブジェクトで隠
される状態を招く。従って、ユーザは、絵の後方にあるオブジェクトが隠された
状態でそれを容易に選択することができない。 これは、明らかにフラストレーションであり、効率的に働くユーザの能力を妨
げ、ユーザが前方のオブジェクトを移動して後方のオブジェクトにアクセスする
ことをしばしば必要とする。

テム（ＧＩＳ）プログラムや、医療モデルや、インターネットのためのブラウザ
を使用する計装や、フライトシミュレータのようなゲームソフトのような種々の

トレーションもある。 上記パッケージは、全て、ユーザが容易にアクセスするために希望する種々の
レベルに関する情報を有する。

【発明の開示】
本発明の目的は、この問題に対処し、即ち少なくとも大衆に有用な選択を与え
ることである。 本発明の更に別の特徴及び効果は、一例として述べた以下の説明から明らかと
なろう。 本発明の１つの特徴によれば、ソフトウェアファンクションを使用してスクリ
ーンにデータ又は像をプレゼンテーションするためのソフトウェアの表示に視覚
効果を形成する方法において、 ａ）特定のスクリーン指称コードをあるソフトウェア成分に指定し、そして ｂ）他のスクリーン指称コードをソフトウェアの他の成分に指定し、 上記スクリーン指称コードは、マルチレベルスクリーン表示において像又はソフ
トウェア成分がどの物理的スクリーンに表示されるのかを決定することを特徴と
する方法が提供される。
【０００７】 本発明の更に別の実施形態では、特定のスクリーン指称コードが指定されるソ
フトウェア成分は、全て、操作される像に関係する。しかしながら、これに限定
されるものではない。操作される像は、像がテキストフォーマットであるか番号
であるかグラフィックであるか他のものであるかに関わらず、像の操作を意味す
る。 例えば、本発明は、ワードプロセス、描画、金融及び科学的情報、フライトシ
ミュレータ、インターネットブラウザ、スプレッドシート、スロットマシーン、
計装、医療プログラム、マッピングプログラム、ゲーム等のソフトウェアに関連
して使用することができる。
【０００８】 本発明のある実施形態では、あるソフトウェア成分は、他のデータより重要性
の低い基準データである。重要性の高いデータは、フロントスクリーンに指定さ
れ、重要性の低いデータは、背景スクリーン又は中景スクリーンに配置される。
好ましい実施形態において、ソフトウェアファンクションにより操作されている
スクリーンに像がある場合には、たとえそれが「移動されつつある」ゲームシー
ンであっても、他のファンクションとは個別の特定のスクリーン指称を有する。 ほとんどの場合に、ソフトウェアの他の成分は、ソフトウェアプログラムと共
に供給される標準的な特徴であることが考えられる。例えば、スクリーンテンプ

る。しかしながら、本発明の他の実施形態では、本発明の背景にある原理を使用
するソフトウェアを創作することもできる。 スクリーン指称コードは、単に、像又はソフトウェア成分がどの物理的スクリ
ーンに表示されるかを識別するコードである。 本発明者は、マルチレベルスクリーンディスプレイも発明し、これが、ＰＣＴ
出願第ＰＣＴ／ＮＺ９８／０００９８号及び第ＰＣＴ／ＮＺ９９／０００２１号
に詳細に説明されている。
【００１０】 これは、選択的透明スクリーンの多数の層を組合せることによって形成された

【００１１】 本発明は、上述したマルチレベルスクリーンに使用するものとして説明するが
、これに限定されるものではない。 本明細書では、背景スクリーン及び前景スクリーンのみについて説明するが、
本発明の他の特徴は、３つ以上のスクリーンを使用できることが明らかであろう
。例えば、描画パッケージでは、容易に使用できる全てのソフトウェアファンク
ションが前景にあり、一方、描画の種々の層は、前景スクリーンの後方の多数の
スクリーンにある。
【００１２】 本発明では、スクリーン指称コードは、標準ソフトウェアファンクション、テ
ンプレート、ツールバー等の全てを前景スクリーンに配置するのに使用される。
しかしながら、作業されている像は、背景スクリーンに配置されてもよい。この
構成は、ソフトウェアのユーザが、操作されている像を見るために前景成分の後
方を効果的に見ることができるようにする。 この能力は、ファンクションに対して従来不透明である背景が、陰影の変化す
る透明度を有する場合に向上することができる。この特徴は、本発明によるソフ
トウェアにバージョンによって与えることができる。 従って、ユーザが、像を完全に見るために種々のツールバー等をスクリーン上
で動かす必要がなくなる。
【００１３】 更に、パッケージが、例えば、描画パッケージである場合には、前景及び背景
成分が実際に異なるスクリーン上にあり、見る者は、その一方が他方を隠すこと
のない状態で、描画成分を見てそしておそらくそれを選択することができる。 描画成分を容易に操作できるようにするために、成分それ自体が異なる透明度
をもつことができる。更に、従来の白いパレットは、完全に透明でよい。 本発明を実施することのできる方法は多数ある。本発明のある実施形態では、
既存のソフトウェアが、通常「常に上にある」又は「常に後ろにある」スクリー
ンファンクションを識別するようにコード化されてもよい。このような場合には
、本発明の１つの実施形態は、これらの識別子で既存のソフトウェアのコードを
識別しそして種々のソフトウェア成分、例えば、ツールバーを適当な前景又は背
景スクリーンに指定するインターフェイスである。
【００１４】 このインターフェイスは、既存のソフトウェアに対するパッチ、ディスプレイ
ドライバ、ライブラリーファイル、又は多数の既存のソフトウェアパッケージに
対する新たなフロントエンド、或いは完全に新規なオペレーティングシステムで
ある。ソフトウェアではなく、グラフィックカードを使用して像を適当に分割す
ることができる。これは、オペレーションの速度を著しく高める。 本発明の更に別の特徴は、上述した方法を動作するための命令を含むことので
きる媒体を提供する。 「常に上にある」ファンクションを背景に満たしたものは、本発明により完全
に透明にすることもできるし又は部分的に透明にすることもできる。 このようなコードをもたない既存のソフトウェアでは、適当な成分及び像を適
当なスクリーン上で進行させるソフトウェアルーチンをソフトウェア開発者が指
定するカスタマイズされたソフトウェアをもつことにより、本発明を実施するこ
とが必要となる。
【００１５】 本発明の１つの特徴は、既存のソフトウェアをマルチレベルディスプレイ上で
使用できるようにするインターフェイスプログラムを含むだけでなく、作業され
ているファイル又は像に対してあるスクリーンを有しそして更に標準的なソフト
ウェアファンクション、テンプレート等に対して他のスクリーンを有するという
概念を同様に利用するオリジナルソフトウェアプログラムも含む。 横に並べた多数のモニタと共に使用できるソフトウェアも入手できる。このソ
フトウェアは、ｘ軸座標が、情報をどのモニタに表示するかを決定するという点
でスクリーン指称コードを有する。このソフトウェアは、本発明において、通常
像を特定のモニタに指定するコードが、今度は、その像又はデータピクセルをマ
ルチレベルディスプレイにおけるスクリーンの１つに指定するようにして、使用
できると考えられる。 本発明の他の特徴は、上述した本発明の原理を組み込んだオペレーティングシ
ステムと、これも又上述した原理を組み込んだウェブブラウザとを含む。 本発明は、既存のソフトウェアに対して逐語的及び形象的に新たな次元をそし
て新たなソフトウェアに対する潜在性を付加することが明らかである。

【発明を実施するための最良の形態】
以下、添付図面を参照して、本発明を一例として詳細に説明する。 図１は、商業的ソフトウェアに見られる典型的なスクリーン表示を示し、この
場合に、商業的なソフトウェアは、Microsoft Powerpoint（登録商標）である。 この表示には、外部テンプレート１、２つのツールバー２、３、ドロップダウ
ンメニュー４、及びパレット６上の操作されるべき像５がある。 ２つのツールバー２、３及びドロップダウンメニュー４は、像５及びパレット
６を隠すことが明らかである。
【００１７】 本発明では、ソフトウェアの共通の成分を、図２に示すように、マルチレベル
スクリーン表示の前景スクリーンに配置することができる。パレット６及び像５
は、前景スクリーンには表示されないことに注意されたい。 像５は、図３に示すように、背景スクリーンに表示される。本発明では、パレ
ットを表示する必要はない。 標準的なソフトウェア成分１、２、３及び４から像５を分離することは、それ
らを前景スクリーンに配置するか背景スクリーンに配置するかを決定するスクリ
ーン指称コードを各成分に指定することにより本発明において達成される。３つ
以上のスクリーンがあってもよく、そしてこれら成分をそれらスクリーンのいず
れに配置してもよいことが明らかであろう。
【００１８】 背景スクリーン上に前景スクリーンをもつ効果は示されていない。というのは
、これは、表示するのが困難な３次元効果だからである。しかしながら、前景ス
クリーンが背景スクリーンからある物理的な距離にありそして背景スクリーンに
対して所々透明であるから、ユーザは、ツールバー及びドロップダウンメニュー
の周り及び後方を見て、背景スクリーン上の像を見ることができる。 以上、本発明を一例として説明したが、本発明の範囲から逸脱せずに、変更や
修正がなされ得ることが明らかであろう。

Claims (13)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】 ソフトウェアファンクションを使用してスクリーンにデータ
    又は像をプレゼンテーションするためのソフトウェアの表示に視覚効果を形成す
    る方法において、 ａ）特定のスクリーン指称コードをあるソフトウェア成分に指定し、そして ｂ）他のスクリーン指称コードをソフトウェアの他の成分に指定し、 上記スクリーン指称コードは、マルチレベルスクリーン表示において像又はソフ
    トウェア成分がどの物理的スクリーンに表示されるのかを決定することを特徴と
    する方法。
  2. 【請求項２】 操作されるべき像には、特定のスクリーン指称コードが指定
    される請求項１に記載の方法。
  3. 【請求項３】 特定のソフトウェア成分は、標準的なソフトウェア特徴であ
    る請求項１又は２に記載の方法。
  4. 【請求項４】 上記方法を既存のソフトウェアに適用する段階を更に含む請
    求項１ないし３のいずれかに記載の方法。
  5. 【請求項５】 上記方法をカスタマイズされたソフトウェアに適用する段階
    を更に含む請求項１ないし３のいずれかに記載の方法。
