Abstract

992,408. Variable speed ratchet gearing. STANLEY WORKS G.m.b.H. Dec. 8, 1961 [Dec. 9, 1960; June 2, 1961], No. 44063/61. Heading F2D. A variable speed ratchet gear has an oscillating input shaft 33 coupled through a one-way device 34 to an intermediate member 35 connected through torsionally resilient means 39 to an output shaft 41. The input shaft is oscillated by a crank mechanism either directly from a reciprocating piston or from a second crank mechanism 22 of an engine, or may be oscillated by two members having selectable amplitudes for the speed ranges or forward and reverse. The intermediate member may be held against reverse rotation under the influence of the torsion spring drive by a one-way brake 36 or be permitted reverse rotation during the idle stroke by virtue of a lower inertia than the output shaft which has a flywheel 42.
