Abstract

990,396. Winding yarns; doffing; spinning. H. GLASTRA. July 10,1962 [July 13, 1961], No. 26560/62. Headings DID, D1F and D1J. A combined spinning and winding machine has an endless chain or belt 4, Fig. 1, that can be moved, from the setting shown, horizontally into a spinning frame 1 and then downwardly to permit grippers 7 thereon to engage wound tubes mounted on the spindles 2 of the spinning machine. The chain or belt then rises to lift the wound tubes from the spindles 2 and subsequently rotates to bring some empty tubes 9 into alignment with the spindles 2. The belt or chain 4 is again lowered to deposit the empty tubes 9 on the spindle 2 and is then raised to the level shown from whence it is moved horizontally outwardly of the spinning frame 1 to position the wound tubes 8, carried by the belt or chain 4, over the winding machines 15, 16. Each gripper 7 Fig. 3 (not shown) has a forked end 19 housing a bent spring 20. Each tube 9 has a top end reinforcement 21 with a recess 22 that fits into the forked end 19 of the gripper 7 and can be kept there by the spring 20. Elastic pins 23 on the top of the tube grip a thread at the start of each spinning operation to enable the spun thread to wind on to the tube 9. After the tubes 9 have been lifted a certain distance from the spindles 2 a cutter 10 (Fig. 2 not shown) is moved towards each thread to cut it between its traveller and tube 9, holding the end which leads to the traveller so that it can be placed between the pins 23 of the next tube 9 to be filled and letting the end connected to the doffed tube hang loose.
