Abstract

986,967. Masted lift trucks; suction grippers. YALE & TOWNE Inc. Feb. 12, 1964 [Feb. 27, 1963], No. 5839/64. Heading B8H. A vacuum gripper device mounted on a load rotating device 14 on the lifting carriage 11 of a lift truck comprises two vacuum pads 15 pivotally mounted about vertical axes on a support 16 which is provided with lugs 19, 30 coupled by four pin-and-slot connections to brackets 18, 27 on a base-plate 17, thereby allowing limited fore-and-aft and lateral tilting movement of the gripper device relative to the lifting carriage. Springs 31 are mounted between the support 16 and the base-plate 17 to urge the support forwardly. Each vacuum pad 15 comprises a vacuum sealing member 42 mounted on a flexible member 40 secured to a plate 38 which is provided with brackets 39 pivoted on a shaft 37 extending between upper and lower portions of the support 16. Leaf springs 43 are provided for urging the inner sides of the vacuum pads 15 forwardly. A limit switch 45 forming part of an automatic control for the vacuum is provided on each pad 15.
