985,531. Filters for liquids. P. DIEBOLD. Aug. 24, 1962 [Aug. 24, 1961; Aug. 8, 1962], No. 32549/62. Heading BID. Sets of parallel triangular grids 6, Fig. 1, separated by vertical partitions 8, Fig. 2, extend radially from a fixed cylindrical portion 2 of a casing 1, Fig. 1. Each chamber 7 contains a filter element in the form of a flexible frame 10, Fig. 3, and articulated members 12 covered on both sides by mesh 9. Liquid to be filtered is supplied by channels 15, Figs. 1 and 2, in a rotating shaft 3, to apertures 11, Fig. 3, in the filter elements. Filtrate is withdrawn from compartments 6a through conduits 17, and from compartments 6b through conduits 18, to a collector 19 communicating with channel systems 20, 21 in the shaft. In the next stage, extracting liquid is supplied at 20 to compartments 6a and after passage laterally through the filter elements is discharged by conduits 18 and channels 21. Finally, compressed air and then a flushing liquid are introduced by channels 16 (now aligned with apertures 11), and flushing liquid by channels 20 and 21. Also, flaps 13 are opened to permit discharge of residue from chambers 7. In Fig. 7 (not shown), a central fixed structure takes the place of shaft 3, and is surmounted by a rotary distributer. Also, it is the compartments between the filter elements and not the filter element interiors which are supplied with liquid to be filtered.
