Abstract

1477702 Filter apparatus FIVES-CAIL BABCOCK 10 July 1974 [10 July 1973] 30607/74 Heading B1D An apparatus for separating liquid from solid material (e.g. sugar pulp) comprises an annular pressing chamber 10 defined by perforated sleeves 20, 20' each of which supports a respective grid and screen, 18, 19 or 18', 19' and carries inclined scraping blades 22 or 23. One of the sleeves (20' in the shown embodiment) is rotatable (e.g. by hydraulic drive), the other being fixed. The outlet end of annular chamber 10 is closed by valve 25 resiliently urged to its closed position by pneumatic jacks 31. In use, material is forced by variable pump 60 comprising two screws, into chamber 10, the liquid passing through the screens 18, 18' being discharged respectively via conduits 41, 43 and the solid matter being discharged through opening 26 when valve 25 is opened by the pressure in the chamber 10. The screens are kept clean by the blades 22, 23.
