Abstract
984,837. Magnetic compositions. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Nov. 16, 1962 [Dec. 6, 1961], No. 43370/62. Heading H1H. A ferrospinel material having low coercivity and a Curie temperature above 200 comprises a manganese tungsten ferrite with the possible inclusion of Ni, Cu, Mg or Cr. The unmodified ferrite has the formula Mn x Wy Fe z O 4 , where 1À1 <x< 1À5, 0À02 <Y< 0À23, 1À38 <z< 1À72 and x+y+z=3. The modified material has the formula Mnx Wy Fe z N (3-x-y-z) O 4 , where y and z have the same limits as above and 0.38 <X< 1.5. In preparation the constituents may be mixed, calcined for 1-2 hours at 700-1000‹ C., ground, mixed with a binder and lubricant, compressed to a " green " density of 2À5-3À5 gm./c.c., sintered between 1300‹ C. and 1450‹ C. for a period from 10 minutes to 24 hours, and plate quenched to room temperature.
