Abstract

984,053. Continuous casting-machines. SOC. CIVILE D'ETUDES] DE CENTRIFUGATION. April 22, 1963 [April 26, 1962], No. 15863/63. Heading B3F. Apparatus for making continuous hollow castings comprises a rotary mandrel 2 with a tapering end projecting into a mould 1 rotating in the same direction, the axis of rotation O<SP>1</SP> of the mandrel being offset from the axis of rotation of the mould O. The pouring jet impinges upon the casting at a point I with respect to the direction of rotation, between 30-120 degrees preceding the point at which the mandrel and mould are closest. The water cooled mandrel 2 is rotated by a motor 17 and is mounted by bearings 8, 8<SP>1</SP> in two eccentric sleeves 9, 10 so that adjustment of the mandrel position may be effected by relative rotational movements of the sleeves by worm gearing 11, 12 and 14, 15.
