Abstract

983,539. Casement stays. JAMES WHEELDON & SONS Ltd., and A. L. D. WHEELDON. March 7, 1961 [Dec. 17, 1959], No. 42929/59. Heading E2F. A casement stay comprises a hollow stay bar 18 having a guide slot 19, and an elongated fastening plate 10, having at least one upstanding flange 11 at one end and an upstanding guide peg 13 remote from the flange and captively and slidably engaged in the slot, the stay bar having means such as a yoke 27 whereby it can be pivotally secured to a casement 30 and the fastening plate being adapted to be secured to a window frame 16 so that, in use, the stay bar cannot be disengaged from the peg and the flange can be used to retain the bar in a position overlying and aligned with the plate. The peg comprises a shank 14 extending through the slot 19 and a larger diameter boss 15 which can engage holes 22 in the top of the bar to hold the casement open but cannot be separated from the bar except through an enlarged aperture 33 (not shown) at one end of the slot. This aperture lies outside the nomal range of movement of the peg in the slot, so that the bar can only be separated from the plate by unscrewing one or other from the window. When the casement is closed the bar is located between the two flanges 11; if only one flange is provided it is positioned either on the side of the bar remote from the casement or midway across the plate so that it engages in the guide slot.
