Abstract
A fluid sealing composition comprises a natural or synthetic rubber latex or dispersion or a mixture of such latices and/or dispersions and a filler material which, at least in part, comprises natural or synthetic fibres of fibre length up to 0.5 inch, the fibres being present in an amount of from 10 to 30% of the dry weight of the composition and the total amount of filler material being such that the viscosity of the composition is from 5000 to 100,000 poises. The rubber latex may be a polychloroprene latex or a graft polymer of natural rubber latex with a halogenated hydrocarbon, e.g. trichlorobromomethane containing 20 to 70% trichlorobromomethane Specified fibres are asbestos, cotton, jute, wool, rayon, nylon and polyester fibres. Other filler materials preferably present are whiting, china-clay, barytes, and lithopone as well as dyes and colouring material; Group II metal oxides, e.g. zinc and magnesium oxide, and usual additives may also be present.
