Abstract
982,376. Gas burners. DRAVO CORPORATION. Dec. 11, 1962 [Dec. 14, 1961; Nov. 13, 1962], No. 46834/62. Heading F4T. A gas burner emitting radiant heat comprises a manifold 10 having an open side covered by a grid, a Venturi tube 5 supplying a as/air mixture and a deflector 17 forming an extension of the Venturi tube and terminating short of an end wall 13 of the manifold. The deflector 17 is inclined across the outlet of the Venturi tube and may be concave. The end wall 13 is provided with a plate 18 which rounds the corners of the manifold. The Venturi tube may have a middle portion of uniform diameter. Gas is directed into the open outer end of the Venturi tube by a gas nozzle supported on a spider secured to the Venturi tube. The grid comprises an outer screen 20 and one or more inner screens 19 which are spaced from the outer screen; the outer screen has larger openings than the inner screen and is formed of smaller diameter wires. The inner screen may by a single screen which is bent upon itself at spaced intervals to provide multiple thicknesses spaced by single thicknesses which may not be of substantial width. A reverberator screen is mounted in spaced relation to the grid and is of larger mesh opening and of heavier gauge. A pair of manifolds or a single manifold is mounted on a frame having a skirt to which an aluminium reflector is attached. A burner control is mounted on the outside of the reflector and gas therefrom is conveyed by conduits to the gas nozzles and to a gas pilot secured in an opening in the frame and ignited electrically. A pilot opening may be provided at either end of the frame. The mounting frame may be inclined upwardly. The opening between two manifolds is closed by a screen having a triangular crosssection. Screen covered openings are also provided in the mounting frame.
