979, 959. Detecting neutrons. NIHON GENSHIRYOKU KENKYUJO. June 18,1963 [Oct. 11, 1962], No.24250/63. Heading G6P. A device for measuring neutron flux comprises means for controlling the quantity of a fluid neutron absorbing material in a container provided outside a neutron detector. In the drawing the gamma-compensated ionization chamber 1 is surrounded by a jacket 2 provided with an inlet 4 and a outlet 5 for a fluid neutron absorber such as boron trifluoride or a boron solution. The output of the detector will depend on the quantity of absorbent in the jacket 2 and may therefore be adjusted by altering this quantity. The detector may be used to measure the neutron flux of a nuclear reactor and its output may be adjusted to equal the value obtained from a thermal output meter and an activation foil, the jacket 2 then being sealed.
