Abstract

979,072. Lift trucks. D. M. KING. July 17, 1962 [July 20, 1961], No. 26321/61. Heading B8H. A stacking device comprising a pair of vertical guides 10 suspended from an overhead trolley (not shown) is provided with a lifting carriage 11 movable along the guides and pivotally supporting a pair of forks 19 about a horizontal axis so as to be movable through 180 degrees from one operative position, shown in full lines, into a second operative position, shown in chain lines. Each fork 19 is pivoted between lugs on a member 16 which is slidable between a pair of cross-members 15 extending across the carriage 11. An upper crossmember 20 of the carriage 11 is provided with latches 21 for holding the forks in a vertical inoperative position. In a modification (not shown), the forks are replaced by a platform formed of telescoping sections so as to be variable in width. The guides 10 may be mounted on a turntable on the overhead trolley, and may be replaced by a single guide. In a further embodiment (not shown), the guides extend upwardly from a mobile chassis.
