Abstract

976,142. Drying by dielectric heating. RADYNE Ltd. March 21, 1962 [Jan. 31, 1961], No. 3659/61. Heading F4G. A dielectrically-heated drying oven comprises an electrode system for creating an alternating electric field, a condensation chamber communicating with the oven having a water spray therein and a duct communicating with the chamber connected to a source of suction. Rayon cakes &c. 14 are dried by passage on a conveyer 5 through an oven heated by an electrode 1 supplied with R.F. energy from a generator 2, the steam thus generated being sucked into a condensation chamber 9 below the conveyer by an extraction fan (not shown) connected to a pipe 10 having apertures 11 communicating with the chamber, where the steam is subjected to a water spray issuing from an apertured pipe 12 within the chamber. A series of such ovens may be mounted in series with the spray pipe 12 and pipe running through the condensation chamber of all the ovens. Steam pipes 8 are mounted beneath the conveyer to prevent condensation of the steam before it reaches the chamber 9 and a panel 3, 4, permeable to R.F. energy, is mounted between the electrode and conveyer. Specifications 806,248, 877,014 and 882,441 are referred to.
