972, 954. Photographic silver salt diffusion process. AGFA A.G. March 8, 1963 [March 10, 1962], No. 9394/63. Heading G2C. Improved image tones are obtained in the silver salt diffusion process if the developer or receiving layer contains a compound of the general f ormula: - wherein R, and R2 are hydrogen atoms or alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl or aryl groups. In the examples the compound is added to a hydroquinone/1-phenyl- 3-pyrazolidone developer solution or included in the receiving sheet either in a sodium alginate layer coated over a gelatine layer containing silver sulphide nuclei, or in a layer containing such nuclei, together with sodium thiosulphate and a binder of gelatine, or of polyvinyl alcohol mixed with sodium alginate or with gelatine and the propylene glycol ester of alginic acid.
