Abstract

972,718. Bed-settees. FURNITURE PRODUCTIONS (BRADFORD) Ltd. March 28, 1963 [Dec. 29, 1961], No. 46556/61. Heading A4J. In a bed-settee the seat 1 is hinged to the back 14 at 15 and arranged to be moved backwards and forwards on the settee frame 5 between stops, and the back 14 is supported on the frame 5 by pivoted links 16 arranged in conjunction with the stops to limit its pivotal movement, whereby securing of the seat in its rearward position maintains the back 14 in its raised position whereas movement of the seat into its forward horizontal position lowers the back into the same horizontal plane as the seat, the seat being guided upon profiled runners 6 at the ends of the settee frame 5 so as to occupy a slightly downwardly and rearwardly inclined sitting position when moved backwards and a horizontal position when moved forwards. Front stop blocks 9 and rear stop brackets 10 in the under face of the seat frame 1 engage respectively behind the settee frame front rail 4 and the front of abutment 11 on the runners 6, respectively. A projecting pin 12 on each rear stop bracket 10 runs in a guide groove in the runner 6 formed between a profiled face 8 and an auxiliary guide means 13 secured above the runner 6. The groove guides the seat from a downwardly and rearwardly inclined position (Fig. 1) to a horizontal position (Fig. 2) as the seat moves forwards while the pins 12 and members 13 co-operate to prevent tilting.
