Abstract

971,834. Rope couplings. D. W. H. HEATH & CO. Ltd. Sept. 3, 1962 [June 1, 1961], No. 19817/61. Heading D1T. A pivotal end coupling for ropes comprises jaws-13, 14, Fig. 1 that can be forced to clamp on the rope 23 by sliding the sleeve 22 in the direction of the arrow. The coupling includes a swivel connection which, as shown, is a link 20 having a threaded portion 21 at one end and a ball and socket connection 17, 18 at its other end. Fig. 2 shows how two rope ends 23, each fitted with one of the couplings can be joined together by screwing the links 20 into a cylindrical connector 24 and locking them therein with lock nuts 25. The connector 24 may be a turnbuckle. In an alternative arrangement the links 20 have a ball and socket connection with the connector 24 and a screw thread connection with the laws 13, 14. The jaws 13,14, which may be four in number, are part of a collet 12.
