970,822. Mixing appliances; comminuting apparatus. DRAISWERKE G.m.b.H. April 9, 1962 [April 15, 1961 ; Aug. 29, 1961], No. 13604/62. Headings B1C and B2A. Apparatus for re-working waste synthetic plastics material comprises a mixing drum or trough with mixing tools operating therein and comminuting means in feeding relationship to them, the material being heated solely by heat generated by friction. As shown in Fig. 1 the mixing drum 1 has a rotatable shaft 6 carrying mixing tools 10 of which those 18a, 19 at the feeding end have respectively a cutting knife 21 and grating teeth 20. Material is supplied through a charging door 12 and is pusher into the drum by a piston 13 actuated by a hydraulic ram 16. In another embodiment, Figs. 2 and 3, the comminuting means is a cutting and conveying worm 37 ; materials may be charged through a shoot 44 and fused into contact with the worm 37 by a piston 42 actuated by a hydraulic ram (not shown). In modifications, the worm may be a conveying worm only, and / or may be used in combination with cutters in the drum; metering arrangements for the material may be provided ; the feeding piston and discharge door may be actuated by automatic time-controlled mechanism. The worm 37 may be rotatably journalled on the shaft 34 and driven at a different speed.
